I probably have to be ignorant on the subject, but I always wondered why Perot was so strong in Maine. I'm sure You, however, know it well and for this I ask!

Maine voters tend to be less partisan hacks than those in other states on average.

Maine has an anti-establishment streak.  That's part of why it has an independent Senator.  The same is true for Alaska, the other state where Perot did particularly well.  Alaska currently has an independent Governor.
