Well, they gave it to him to "encourage him to go in the direction he said he would go". Cool.

After the preemptive wars of Bush we have the preemptive peace award for Obama.

Weird, actually, am not able yet to see what exactly this event means, maybe some actual psychological febricity, thrill.

But, that's a bad move from the Nobel, now maybe he'll feel he would have to be hyper-pacifist to make honor to this prize while sometimes a politician has to be tough, it would weaken him actually, the right would see him more like a pussy, and people around the world would think "what is that?? he did nothing and he has it" making some resentment.

And yes, anyways, people should get an award for something they did. And a politician in function shouldn't have such thing, better when he has no more power to get it.

And, this:

Obama will next win the Physics prize for his ability to walk on water.....

I'm sure the Israelis, who were probably the real target of all of this, are saying to themselves, "We're screwed now!"

It's all a conspiracy, jm. Watch for the black helicopters.

black helicopters aside, unless you think the Nobel committee is a bunch of Obama worshippers (which I don't), would there be any other reason to give Obama the Nobel at this point in time?

You underestimate the Obama's cult I think.

If so, the world media organized itself for this, unlikely.

that is a possibility, but, aside from throwing Obama a bone for apologizing for America, I think this was an attempt to give Obama more power in the Middle East peace process and to attempt to keep Obama on his present course.

If so that's a good intention, that's just pretty irrelevant and not very smart to give an award.

dude...this is nothing more than an attempt to contol obama

Well, euh, really, I think you should take some distance with the Jewish paranoia, actually.

The true "noble" thing for Obama to do is respectfully turn down the award at this point in time.

Hey, I would agree with you on that.

And the wise thing for Obama to do is to realize that this is an attempt to tie his hands and make him bow to world opinion.

Hey, I keep disagree with you on that.

Stop being naive, the Nobel committee did this for political reasons, even Obama sees that!

R'ly?? That's what they loudly say from the beginning!

But seeing it as some anti-Israel stuffs and so on is an other thing...

They just thought it would be a good thing to do for peace...

exactly, their idea of peace.  This was NOT an award for past activity (unlike the Nobel award for chemistry), rather it is a political attempt to influence future politics.

no doubt about it

Euh, that's more or less what I said, they thought it was a good idea for peace in general, and always said why they did it, which doesn't mean it was smart or relevant. The agenda is not hidden.

Just in order there is no confusion:

In my mind, the intention remains good, that's peace, that's just wasn't necessarily smart or relevant.

Giving the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama makes the prize worth less in my opinion.

Yup, that's one of the possible consequences, given it is not based on acts.
