I find it kind of interesting that you would say this:

Wow, what a superb job of dishonesty and distortion. Usually it's a nice hint when two quotes are presented and they aren't complete nor are they speaking to the same issue.

...and then go on to post something with an equally dishonest and distorted subject line.

They're not calling for the banning of knives; they're calling for the banning of knives that are both long and pointed under the premise that such knives are completely unnecessary and only lead to impulsive murders.

Make of that statement if you will, but please try not to show such blatant hypocrisy.

I didn't say they wanted to ban ALL knives.

The fact they want to ban knives at all is pretty hilarious.

Actually in Texas awhile ago Wiccans were suing against a law that prohibits knives over a certain length and width, that includes knives they use in their rituals. And that's certainly not a liberal state, so don't go saying this is leftist idiocy.

What garbage. This is the kind of thing you can expect in a socialist country run by bureaucrats. What will they do after some enterprising thug takes a butter knife and sharpens a point on it? Or if they use a piece of broken glass to  stab someone, or maybe use a hammer to pound someones brains out. Looks like you have to put every Englishman in a padded cell, with only paper plates to eat off.

Uh...it's a recommendation from a university...not government action.

I never said anything about leftists, though I imagine these people aren't particularly conservative politically.

Uh, are you proposing that these people not be allowed to suggest something?  That doesn't seem very libertarian of you. Tongue

Gabu,

You REALLY don't understand the point beng made.

These loons refuse to comprehend the basic concept that PEOPLE wield knives, the knives don't weild themselves.

Next thing you know, they'll want to ban cricket bats.

Proof that gun control does not work as well as people would hope.  If they aren't using guns, they just use knives or ball bats.  Look at the bat bat ban they tried to pass in Italy.

I do not think that anyone is arguing this is not stupid; rather, I think the general idea (at least in my mind) is that acting like this represents the U.K. government is sort of ridiculous, considering this was a few professors at a university, not the entire country.

Its true that in much of the world, academia constitutes a refuge for totalitarian idiotlogues.

Further, I saw no evidence that anyone was suggesting that everyone in the UK was supporting such a loony proposal.

Oh, the proposition is very stupid, for sure.

I just don't really care about the fact that it's being made.  It's not like the UK's goverment sounds overly receptive to it.

But all you Republicans ignore that TEXAS has banned knives over a certain size. Yeah, only those looney liberals could think up such a thing. Roll Eyes

I'm not arguing against their right to speak their opinion, stupid though it may be. I'm just pointing out that it is stupid.

The Brits lost their gun rights in much the same way. This knife proposal is not law yet, but it could be soon.
