I didn’t see a megathread for this race already, so I created one.

Today Gov. Doug Burgum announced he is dropping out of the Presidential race. It’s unclear whether Burgum will run for reelection in 2024. While ND voters approved term limits in 2022 limiting Governors to serving two, four year terms, Burgum is grandfathered in and therefore can seek reelection.

I’m interested to see who runs to succeed Burgum now that he’s not running again. It looks like former State Sen. Tom Campbell may run, and I wouldn’t be surprised if one (or both) of Lieutenant Governor Tammy Miller and Attorney General Drew Wrigley run.

Is there anyone else on the Republican side? I suppose a political outsider with self funding ability (like Doug Burgum in 2016) could emerge as well.

My guess is that Burgum is banking on getting a job in the Trump administration if he wins again, it seems like Trump likes him.

I doubt the Democrats put up a serious candidate here, the state is too far gone for Democrats to win statewide.

Some updates:

-Tom Campbell will be announcing a run within the next week or two.
-Tammy Miller is considering a run.
-Kelly Armstrong hasn’t said anything about a run of his own yet, but he hasn’t declined to run.
-Drew Wrigley isn’t running, will instead serve out rest of term as AG.

Interestingly, this will set up a rematch between Armstrong and Campbell, who ran against one another for the state’s open House seat in 2018.
