Fourth open GOP seat in Indiana.

Perhaps Pence will be running for Lt Governor? There was speculation last year that he may join a ticket with Suzanne Crouch. Or, maybe he’s just done with politics.

I imagine this will be a crowded primary. I wonder if Luke Messer is interested in running for this seat again? He gave it up in 2018 to run for Senate, so this open seat may be a good comeback opportunity if he wants to return to politics.

Yeah there's been speculation for a while that he's going to run for some statewide office.

In the bigger picture,  Indianas GOP congressional seniority is about to get wiped out. Freshman in 2 and 9. Retirements in 6 and 8. Banks out for Senate in 3. Spartz looking retire in 5. And Baird in 4 rumored to be retiring late so a family member can avoid the primary.

I know it won’t happen, but it would be super interesting to see how Mike Pence would do in a primary if he attempted to run to reclaim this seat.

Rudy Yakym and Erin Houchin were both first elected in 2022, so if Jim Baird (who's 78) retires then Victoria Spartz potentially would be the dean of the Indiana GOP delegation.

Spartz was elected in 2020 and is flip flopping on whether she's running or not.

Of the 5 people running for Governor, he's been broached as LG by at least 2, one of those being Suzanne Crouch. (Governor nomination is decided in a primary, Lt. Governor nomination is decided in a Convention. A Christian conservative has declared he's running for the LG nomination untied to any governor candidate so he's aiming at winning all the convention delegates to his side which no one is going to pay attention to. Pence's name coming in is trying to counteract that.)

First, it's a very crowded Governor's race and has been for awhile. Second, he wouldn't win...or maybe even place 2nd.

Pence struck me as a guy that ran for Congress because of it was low necessary effort for him to win, relying on his brother was VP and local party establishment to do the work. He never did much locally from what I gathered from locally-based media, even in the open primary in 2018. Being approached with "become my LG" suits that mentality. Also realize not everyone's dream is to die in Congress.
