These aren't impeachable offenses.

Why do Republicans think that being a Democrat is an impeachable offense?

I'll admit that Jay Nixon's election and relatively easy reelection in a place like Missouri (the modern Missouri of fundamentalist SoCons and ALEC-backed, term-limited pols, not the bygone Symington-Danforth-Carnahan Missouri) has always perplexed me.

Anything is an impeachable offense when there's a D next to your name

Those are Presidential Medal of Freedom level of offenses, not impeachable offenses.

Because they've apparently been able to get away with that view across the country.

Why do Republicans think that being a Democrat is an impeachable offense?

If the grounds for impeachment of a Governor of Missouri are identical to those for the President... then impeachment can be for strictly-partisan ends on any "high crimes and misdemeanors".

Republicans could in theory impeach the President for mismatched socks.  Whether they could get away with it without making fools of themselves is another question. That's a good reason to avoid 70-30 partisan splits in any legislature, whereat the government can get away with anything.

Nixon hasn't been particularly controversial for much of his term in office and he's a centrist Democrat, so he's had enough crossover appeal for both of his gubernatorial elections. It was only after being reelected that he's been more ballsy against Republicans, so that's why they're doing this now.

Anyway, political theatre as usual. Nothing to see here, folks.

I thought it might be because they're afraid that he'll run against Roy Blunt in 2016.

That might have something to do with it as well. Nixon at this point has ruled out running for that seat, although you can't ever trust politicians' words.
