Only one will run, they're close friends and allies. At this point Salmon seems likelier, plus he's run statewide before. The crappy polling we have says both would start out as favourites over McCain.

Arizonans: who do you think would win a McCain/Salmon primary?

McCain may get a much lower-profile challenger. Sign Salmon may not bite?

Schweikert says spousal veto, so he's not running. Both he and Salmon also have prime committee slots to consider.

The state senator and Salmon are still considering. Presumably someone will make a move soon.

AZ TP worried that Salmon and Ward could split the vote, or that Salmon won't run if the ABM vote is split.

That means Salmon's out. Or perhaps was never in.

Salmon and Schweikert confirm they're out, or more likely were never in. McCain is safe.

Yeah. Especially Salmon, who already lost a statewide race and has a plum subcommittee chairmanship. Considering they mentioned it in January but did nothing in the 3 months since, quite expected.

Salmon is "strongly considering" and will make a decision by early August.

Salmon's biding his time, but is getting plenty of encouragement.

McCain says he's actively fundraising but might wait till September to assemble a team.

Salmon never sounded that interested. He has a subcommittee chairmanship, nearly didn't make it back to Congress, and had already lost a statewide race. Plus he's 57, so it isn't like he could take a loss and wait 10 years to see what comes up.
