I was on the Debate Team during my entire freshman year.  After realizing that I didn't like it (mostly because the debate format was too formal and I really sucked at public speaking at the time), I joined my high school's Junior State of America (JSA) chapter the following year and have been in the club ever since.

I was on debate briefly on and off throughout HS and I'm trying to get into it in college. However, I must say a theme I've noticed amongst debate kids in both high school and college is that alot of them tend to be douchbags, assholes, and drunks thus making it a major turn off for me personally.

I'm an officer in my HS's Young Republicans Club. Which Ironically has democrats in it too. I'm pretty much de facto Chairman though, as the Chairman only shows up when needed (he's the president of like 8 clubs...), and the VP never shows up.

No, thank God. I can't imagine being one of those people.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

This; I don't want to debate politics with the people who debate politics at my university.

I'm with the UO Young Liberals, and in HS I was in a kind of unorganized politics club which was fun because nobody knew about us and only a closed circle of people showed up. My HS' debate club apparently debated stupid topics in a way too formal and structured manner. My friend was forced to leave it after he allegedly defeated the "best debater" of the school in a debate.

I briefly explored the possibility in high school but found the format to be insufferable.
