I think coolface needs to cool it on the number of threads he's creating.

I’m about to be the first poster registered after 2014 to reach the Top 60!

The Atlas Leaderboard is almost an equivalent of the old Billboard Magazine (Now an online site) that essentially uses metrics that are primarily based upon "Units of Production" (in the Atlas case posts), where many users pad their post counts to get to "top of the charts".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_(magazine)

The main difference however is that "sales" (posts) although they are technically consumed by the internal/external customers of Atlas, do not allow a "consumer voice" which either chooses to "buy" the c**p or brilliant recordings of musical artists....

Additionally, the focus of the Atlas Leaderboard is based solely on quantity of units produced, and completely neglects the qualitative content that individual artists/producers of content have created...

If I was looking at this from a 5s or "Lean Mfg Factory Model", this in my mind would be considered a "bogus metric", which quite frankly pushes quantity of posts over quality of posts.

Maybe we need to introduce new metrics, where the Internal Consumers of the Product have a chance to vote on a new set of metric slides that incorporate the quality of the product produced rather than solely folks padding posting so that they too can make it to the "top of the charts"....

Personally, I like to listen to music that hasn't yet made it to the top of the charts, instead of the drivel and mass sales of the recording industry where they shove artists down our throats simply on the basis of total units of production... Wink

Thoughts???

Some might say that we have a large number of extremely gifted and talented posters from a wide variety of political persuasions, but that the race to fame at the "top of the charts" leads certain posters to consistently posted empty "pretty vacant" threads (Sex Pistols song reference), and empty quote, do one line responses on BS threads way too often, etc.... just to get to the top of the charts and keep their "Brand" relevant as part of some sort of Narcissistic Personality Disorder....   Wink

https://www.helpguide.org/articles/mental-disorders/narcissistic-personality-disorder.htm

some would say that atlas and quality do not go together

Actually I would disagree....

We have a huge pool of posters, many of whom contribute election based analysis well beyond that available elsewhere on the internet.

Even in some of the "swamp threads", in many cases there is a higher level of contribution than one might find elsewhere in America on internet sites when it comes to political commentary and analysis....

My main issue is more that we have various posters that try to pad their post count by creating new threads consistently (many of which are absolute drivel), consistently "empty quoting", and folks that jump in and fire off one-line sentence responses, in many cases as often as 20s /day.

In my mind much of the patterns of behavior referenced above remind me of the old classic Sex Pistols song "Pretty Vacant", and in certain cases that of a "Narcissistic Personality Disorder" (NPD)complex.

In order to protect the innocent, I am simply quoting the NPD complex, and most likely those individuals involved recognize that there is help available to cure their condition, although I do not yet believe that NPD twelve step programs are currently available in most communities in America, there are other ways to seek support and help for this serious medical condition.

December 2019 was the least active month on the forum since the same month four years earlier: December 2015.  With primary season upon us, we'll surely see a jump in activity in January and beyond, but it remains to be seen whether we'll match the high numbers from the 2016 primary season.

January continued our long-running streak of having more posts than the same month four years earlier.  We had ~43,000 posts in this month that just ended, up 7% from four years earlier, January 2016.  However, now we're entering busy season with the primaries upon us.  Feb. 2016 had ~59,000 posts(!), so I'm not sure we'll get quite that high this time, but I guess we'll see.

I recently passed Grumps for 12th place, so it's now:

1) BRTD 88,551
2) Al 62,910
3) Lewis 58,239
4) Kal 55,242
5) Phil 52,651
6) Tender 51,823
7) Antonio 51,236
8 ) opebo 47,053
9) jfern 46,880
10) North Carolina Yankee 44,437

11) Eraserhead 43,203
12) Mr. Morden 40,801 (or 40,802 with the post I'm making now)

For the month of February, we had 29% more posts than in January (and a bigger increase than that if you were to convert it to posts per day, since of course February is shorter).  However, we're still down 6% from February 2016.  Not a big surprise though, IMHO, since both parties' primary contests were generating a good deal of commentary here 4 years ago, whereas this time around, Trump vs. Weld isn't exactly lighting the world on fire, so it's all on the Dems to generate traffic to the forum.

8th place you mean, but yes, jfern’s now ahead of opebo, and we’re at:

1) BRTD 88,728
2) Al 62,949
3) Lewis 58,239
4) Kal 55,480
5) Phil 52,651
6) Tender 52,224
7) Antonio 51,303
8 ) jfern 47,064
9) opebo 47,053
10) North Carolina Yankee 44,729

I guess the next change in the top 10 order will most likely be Tender passing Phil for 5th.

He's now over 1600 posts in the last 30 days.  Maybe he'll slow down a little once the primary race subsides, but would be remarkable if he manages to keep this up all the way to November.

Despite having been in the top ten virtually the entire time that this 30 day posting has been up, this is the first time that Progressive Pessimist is number 2 on the list, and is still only about half of what OC has been able to put out

I don't know if I should feel pride or shame. I guess I have a lot more resentment towards the average American that I needed to get out over these past few weeks of shelter-in-place, if my recent posting history is any indication.

I'll probably be taking a break soon though. The new Borderlands 3 DLC comes out tomorrow, so I'll probably be playing that with my buddy quite a bit. So expect fewer posts from me, and feel free to be delighted/disappointed by that.

brucejoel, intentional or not, seems to be giving OC a run for his money on top quantity poster in the 30 day bracket. First time that somebody besides OC has hit the 1K or more posts in a 30 day period since the inception of the bracket in November

Not really intentional, moreso just a consequence of A.) me breaking up with my girlfriend; & B.) all of my classes moving online resulting in my having more time to be online lol Tongue

I've been posting at an incredibly high rate (by my own standards) for a few months now. Assuming I keep up the pace of the past, say, three months indefinitely (not likely), how long till I break the top 10?

I don't know what's more mindblowing to me: the fact that BRTD has at least 25K posts more than everybody, or the fact that Opebo still is in the top ten (which means he was probably number 1 or 2 by the time of his ban)
