The Government Oversight and Reform Committee voted unanimously to recommend that the Senate not pass this Amendment.

I think this amendment would only further discourage presidents from wanting to deal with senators one-on-one. If a president has a huge agenda, he or she should be working with the senate to get it passed. At least with the status quo the president has to work with the sponsor of a bill.

I guess I just don't see that there's a real need for this change.

I agree with Hagrid. The executive and legislative must come together to do any effective work.

I see no reason to support this.

I was asked by the President to introduce this. I see no reason to truly oppose it; it merely removes a minor "procedural hump", as Marokai put it. At the same time, it enourages presidents to directly push their agendas as opposed to being beholden to Congress. Of course the legislative body has the final say, with the ability to amend, pass, or vote down the president's bill as they so desire. There was a good debate on this in the GORC; read what Marokai has to say.

The President already introduced legislations in all but the sponsor's name.

Beside, I'd consider this really inappropriate for the member of the executive to have greater priveledges in legislation making than a f**king member of the Senate.

We were obviously trying to increase our administration's power before our second term, which would eventually culminate with us eliminating the senate. And then we decided not to run for reelection... Wink

I guess the difference is just in my outlook.

"It's not a big deal, so why change it?" versus "It's not a big deal, so let's try something new."

I've always subscribed to the former school of thought.

I think the interaction of the Gang of Four with regards to the Pacific is proof enough why we shouldn't pass this. I am sure that whatever MArokai rushed into the Senate on Friday in the heat of the moment would have been counterproductive at best and probably failed. The situation in the Pacific has, if nothing else, restored my faith in collaborative efforts to a large extent after the disappointment of the Mental Health Bill.

We frankly need more collaborative efforts and not less, and this would likely lead to less.

Senators, this is now at final votes, please vote Aye, Nay or Abstain.

This seems a for or against thing and thus waiting longer doesn't have much purpose.

This amendment has enough votes to fail, Senators have 24 hours to change their votes.
