I disagree that this is a bad move for Kander. He had no shot at winning the presidency in 2020, and any statewide race in MO is always going to be a huge uphill battle for Democrats. I know little about Kansas City politics, but if he wins this race, he'll be set up to join the cabinet in the 2020s, much like Julian Castro and Anthony Foxx did. He can then run for president in the late 2020s or the 2030s. He doesn't even turn 60 until 2041 so he has plenty of time.
