Oh thank God.

But yeah, as Virginia said, still utterly terrifying that there are 3 GOP hack with so little regard for the rule of law.

Good news!

Every time I see news about a federal judge making a good ruling like this all I can think is "who cares, this is gonna be overturned by Justice Kavanaugh soon enough".

This sounds like a slam dunk case. What other rationale could the SoS possibly have?

Huh, weird. Is it a PR stunt on their part ("see, we're totally not just a way to funnel dark money into GOP candidates!") or something more sinister? It sure ain't out of the goodness of their hearts.

Voting rights aren't really a libertarian thing, though. They're about democracy rather than freedom, and if anything libertarians tend to be suspicious of democracy. And obviously someone who's serious about democracy wouldn't pour millions of dollars into manipulating their outcome. I'm not willing to give the Kochs the benefit of the doubt here, although obviously I'm still glad they're helping.

This is despicable. I don't care if it helps Democrats or not, it's just wrong.

Federal Judge struck down WI's lame-duck voting restrictions.

Democracy wins.

Wonderful news through and through!

I don't know why they didn't add reenfranchisement though. Oh well.

Yes, of f**king course inmates have a right to vote. They are citizens like everyone else, and they actually have more of a stake in government policy than most people.

The ease with which Americans go about dehumanizing people who happen to have committed a crime (or been framed by a corrupt judicial system for a crime) never ceases to amaze me, even after all these years.

Worth noting that this was a purely procedural decision based on standing, so we don't actually know what the Court's view on the substance of the issue is. This also explains that the vote doesn't completely fall across the usual ideological lines.

A controversial Florida law stops some former felons from voting. A judge just blocked part of it.

A federal judge has issued a limited ruling that Florida cannot use a person’s inability to pay fines as a reason to deny the vote.

In what way is it a "limited" ruling? Wasn't this the whole point of the law? Huh

Huh, that is odd. If the legal rationale that led to this ruling can be applied to other cases, you'd think the ruling would as well.

So North Carolina has a new congressional map? Surprised that hasn't been brought up here.
