Let's say in 2117... the US government is still around in almost identical form, there hasn't been anything crazy like a nuclear strike or another world war or another civil war or revolution or economic collapse or pandemic or mass starvation, and even the effects of climate change turned out to be adaptable. The laws are still pretty much the same... nothing communist or fascist or theocratic, no return to segregation or institutionalized marginalization of women, etc.

But there still hasn't been a female president. There's been no other "firsts" either (no gay president, no atheist president, no Jewish president, no non-Christian president of any kind, no Latino president, no Asian president, etc.)

There hasn't even been another African-American or mixed-race president, after Obama.

What would your thoughts be on this?

I'd be pretty surprised, and i'm sure it would be a huge campaign plank for a woman candidate that they are a woman, since many people will have been waiting for it.

Straight Christian white men only as President from now til 2117? No marginalization either?

I guess the definition of white, female, and possibly straight and Christian have all expanded to include many, many people by then for some unknown reason.

White voters must be voting for one party in the same proportions as black voters are voting for Democrats today.

Why is this even a question?? It would be practically a utopia. I would trade 100 years of peace and stability, and fixing climate change for some stupid identity politics BS faster than you can say "Beam Me Up, Scotty".

I think the only way this scenario can happen is if the USA becomes autocratic/authoritarian.

This future would happen if, while the GOP keeps on Trumping, the Democratic Party is taken over by Atlasians who think that only cishet white males (preferably Midwestern ones) can be "economically progressive" and win Middle America.

He said no institutionalized marginalization, so in this scenario there would be plenty of implicit attitudes (like the one I described in my previous post).

We're basically guaranteed to have someone who isn't a straight cis non-Hispanic white Christian male as President this next century. But we should focus on electing a good President and not some stupid identity politics.

Ahh I see. Well I still stand by my original post. Implicit attitudes won't be enough to keep a 100 year long trend of solely white Christian heterosexual males from being the only ones occupying the White House. The only feasible way this happens is if the definition of those terms expands to include many different people.

Changes in the United states, ethnically and culturally makes me want to place this in a alternate future where Jim Crow laws still exists and the constitution allows you to treat women like pieces of poop

This is why Dem's are having problems winning elections. They're more worried about checking off boxes instead of finding candidates who can win.

I mentioned "no problems" in my OP to pre-empt responses like "that would only happen if society collapsed/we became a theocracy/etc" kinds of posts.

This thread is examining how long will it take of no female president for people to consider we might have deeply-ingrained sexist attitudes?

Well, I think it would depend. Like if there candidates in these fields that just happened to not win, I don't think people would really say anything. And if there weren't any candidates in this field at all, then I have a feeling people will just think that this was a random piece of time in history in which we tried to be progressive but failed in the end

We have never had:

a Jewish President
a Polish-American President
an Italian-American President

These ethnic groups are disproportionately represented in political life and concentrate more political talent than the rest of Americans.

Under the circumstances in 2008 Americans would have elected "Baruch O. Berman", the 47-year-old fictional son of an Israeli exchange student and a woman of WASP origin who showed the political acumen and offered much the same agenda as you-know-who.

Scandinavian-Americans might be over-represented in politics in some places -- but heavily in the Upper Midwest.

This is before we see something like a "President Connors" (whose great-great grandfather was born in a shtetl resembling the fictional Anatevka in Fiddler on the Roof and had the surname "Kohn"), a "President Rogers" whose Portuguese-American ancestor came over with the surname "Rodrigues", or a "President Smithson" whose Polish ancestors translated the common Polish surname "Kowalski".

I expect a huge influx of Hispanics into elective office, and one or more of them might end up with a tough political job in which he or she solves big problems.

The Presidency has been traditionally a WASP preserve, with connections to early (largely from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales -- with some Dutch, German, and French Huguenot exceptions). Kennedy was the first Irish Catholic. But even Obama is about half WASP.

If things get bad enough, then ethnicity will not matter in the election.  Just think of "Franklin Delano Rosenfeld", whom many thought (wrongly) was Jewish.

I forgot to mention Asian-Americans. Asian-Americans are getting a reputation for superior performance in education and commerce. That's where many top-notch politicians come from. Considering that to most white Americans, a marriage to an Asian (east, southeast, or south) is less likely to cause consternation than one to someone black or non-white Hispanic groups, it might not be long before we elect as President someone of full or partial Asian origin.

That's an extremely tall order.
