He knows he's not going to win because he's mostly campaigning to influence the process (and be a part-time friend to Mitt, of course).  It's basically his last hurrah before retirement.  I doubt he will be dropping out before the convention.

What has he to gain by giving up?

Guys, he came in third in Illinois, don't you know that means he'll WIN ALL THE DELEGATES now?

Paul just wants the attention and fandom from the paranoid lunatics who vote for him. He knows can't win. Federal Reserve FTW.

This question is either naive or willfully ignorant.  Ron isn't running to win, so not winning isn't a reason to quit.

He stayed in until the convention in 2008 when he was even less competitive.

Paul wants to win the plurality in five delegations so that his name can formally be placed into nomination. He isn't there yet, but, he may very well win the plurality of delegates in Alaska, Washington, Iowa, Maine and Nevada. I suppose he will try to parlay that into a speech at the convention where he could preach the absurdities of so-called "libertarianism."

When Romney becomes the pesumptive nominee Paul will endorse him.

The better question is

When will Rick Santorum finally face the music and give up?

Paul campaigned to the convention last time. He isn't in it to win it. He is in it to preach the absurdities of so-called "libertarianism." As long as he can preach his message, he'll keep campaigning.
