People need to realize that wave elections can destroy "entrenched" incumbents... just look at how many "entrenched" incumbents lost in 1994, 2008, and 2010.

You have to remember that John Mccain did extremely well in Alaska in 2008 because his Vice Presidential running mate had an over 70% approval rating as the Governor of Alaska.

Don Young got coattails from the Palin effect.

Meanwhile, in 2014 - a GOP wave year - Don Young only won by 10%. He is clearly vulnerable to a strong challenger.

People do say it, but it's a remarkably stupid thing to say which has no connection with how history actually worked and has everything to do with using the Holocaust to score points for the gun debate. There is no reasonable counter factual here.
