Eee-yuck! A choice between those two is sure to inspire someone like Mark Cuban to run as an independent, and they could actually win, unlike Ross Perot 30 years ago.

I disagree with that strongly. My hot take is that such a third-party candidate, though doing well in the PV, might end up without a single electoral vote (no more than a handful of electoral votes).
