Why were you going to walk out? I've never been so disgusted with a movie to just walk out - if I paid for it, I'll sit through to the end. Plus you lose credibility telling your friends how awful a film was if you didn't even sit through the whole thing.

Nah, I'd doubt I'd walk out, that was just hyperbole on my part. But I did groan a few times over the cheesy scenes, especially that camera scene.

My wife got me Defiance for my Birthday last week. Pretty good flick.

I went and saw Hangover today, f'king hilarious and brilliant.

I didn't know they were allowed to show certain, ahem, organs in rated "R" movies? When did the rules change? Not that I really care, just curious.

It's not that they couldn't, it's just that no one wants to.

Really, what's the threshold on such things between R and X? They showed a dude getting a BJ in the movie.

None, because there is no X rating anymore, and there never really officially was. Now it doesn't even exist unofficially though, it's just a marketing term used by porn retailers. Pixar could market its movies as X-rated if it wanted to for some insanely bizarre reason.

Re: Top Gun, the MPAA didn't really work out the current line between PG and PG-13 until the early 90s, The Living Daylights and The Hunt For Red October are both rated PG too. PG-13 was initially designed for films that went beyond the limits of what was PG traditionally but weren't quite R, Top Gun fits the much laxer limits of PG at the time perfectly. PG-13 was intended originally to be a replacement for "soft R" movies, not "hard PG" ones, and "hard PG" ones hence kept getting rated PG until around roughly '92 or so, when they too were lumped into the PG-13 rating.

Yeah, you're right. It's actually NC-17

The Hangover was fucking fantastic.  Absolutely amazing, from start to finish.

You're a bit to young for a movie like that, aren't you?

Let me guess, it wasn't as brutally bad as you expected it to be.  Still, you won't be watching it again any time soon...if ever.  That was my experience with it.

(and I think Kevin Smith wrote the dialogue)

Pretty close to it.

Gettysburg, I watched it on Friday the 166th anniversary of the last day of the battle. Not very appealing to many on here I am sure.

I've seen it nearly 20 times. The costuming was horribly bad but for the reenacting standards of 1993 it was about just above average. Amazingly, Gone With The Wind has much more accurate clothing (outside Scarlet), some of the costumes were even original. The story line was pretty good but not really all that accurate. You have to remember the movie was based off the book, which was historical fiction. It gives Chamberlain way way to much credit for his actions on that day, the United States Sharpshooters, who aren't even mentioned in the movie, were actually the end of the line at LRT and helped to hold back the Alabamians. Picketts charge wasn't as epic as the movie shows, most of the Confederates stopped Emmitsburg Road and soon turned back. The first day of the battle was done pretty well and close to accurate, though they didn't show enough of the Yankee rout near the end of the first day of the battle.

___________

I saw Ice Age : Dawn of the Dinosaurs with my girls. They liked it but it was garbage as compared to the first two movies.

Paul Blart, Mall Cop. Pretty stupid, though it did get better closer to the end.

Borat - F'in hilarious. Got it in the 5$ bin at Wal mart.

The Happening - Very enjoyable move. I don't know why so many critics hated it.

Zulu, made in 1964, with Michael Caine.

Such a great film. The pace is kept up from beginning to end and you really get a sense of what it must have felt like to be there.

Awesome flick Vlad.

So you agree with what I said here?

I've realized lately that the plot for Donnie Darko is hardly anything spectacular or original. What makes it so enjoyable is everything else about it, it's told in the best possible way, the 80s setting, the ambiance, the excellent performances from everyone and the chemistry between Jake and Maggie that would be impossible to replicate with a pair that wasn't real life brother and sister.

Yes, but I thought it was pretty original IMHO.

The Happening.

Seriously one of the worst movies I've ever seen. My brother and I were laughing through the entire thing at how stupid it was, how horrible the acting was, how juvenile the dialogue was and how ridiculous the entire concept was.

It was horrendously bad.  M. Night whatever the  should find another job.  Unbreakable was his last decent movie.  The Village really looked good...set, costumes, lighting, etc.  But the plot had more holes than swiss cheese.  Signs was another one with a good look but nothing of substance to it.  Now, he's not even making movies that look good.  The Happening should never have happened.

That's a bit of an extreme statement. I thought the idea behind the movie was great and the concept was. I think some parts were badly executed.

Boogeyman (2005) horrible movie with a horrible ending. At least Emily Deschenal was in it.

Julie and Julia. It was pretty good actually. They should have done more storyline on Julia Child though, she had an interesting life after the war.
