I'm still wondering what the point of Trump pardoning him was. It's not like there was any real demand from the right or people who considered him some sort of unfairly persecuted figure, nor would it obviously endure him to Democratic voters. Yes he endorsed him unsurprisingly, but who cares what this guy says in 2020? It was pretty much just trolling.
Trump is a strongman of the type that's not ideologically driven, but rather driven by a hunger for power and recognition. Sort of like Bibi. These people are always corrupt and always thrive on corruption - they require an environment where people in power are allowed to do everything they want to personally enrich or benefit themselves. That's their natural habitat. That's why he pardoned a bunch of corrupt politicians from both parties.
