It was a joke. You know how far-right voters often plead the secrecy of the ballot box. So...

Weren't trying to be offensive, like.

ND has been slowly dripping off seats to the left parties since the initial 10% or so came in - PASOK has gained at least 2, KKE at least 1 and SYRIZA at least 2. No change for LAOS.

Papandreou himself isn't that bad, he sounds reformist and moderate, but the PASOK, to my knowledge, remains dominated by old archaic 'elephants' and old interests that die hard.

KKE just picked up a seat from SYRIZA.

The struggle continues!

ETA: Now SYRIZA picked up a seat from ND

So effectively KKE pickup from ND. Good. My preference of parties:

SYRIZA

*big gap*
PASOK
KKE

*gigantic gap*
ND

*gap the size of Jupiter*
LAOS

What have I done to deserve such an insult? Sad

What time's the count expected to be (mostly) finished? 2:30 Greek Time is it?

They're taking an ouzo break so maybe a little longer.

Actually it's pretty late for ouzo. Maybe some hot patsa later.

Do you know any KKE voters? What are they like? Are they people who actually walk around talking about the proletariat struggle and who hang pictures of Marx and Lenin in their homes are they just normal people who vote KKE for kicks?

There's still like about 1.25% left to count but they seem to be on break or something so here's nearly the final results:

PASOK: 43.9%, 160 seats (+5.8%, +58 seats)
ND: 33.5%, 91 seats (-8.3%, - 61 seats)
KKE: 7.5%, 21 seats (-0.7%, -1 seat)
LAOS: 5.6%, 15 seats (+1.8%, +5 seats)
SYRIZA: 4.6%, 13 seats (-0.4%, -1 seat)
Greens: 2.5%, 0 seats (+1.4%, no seat change)

So a good day for PASOK and LAOS and an absolutely horrible day for ND.

As for the results: meh. I've yet to see anything that would lead me to believe that ND and PASOK differ at all.

I'd probably support ANTARSYA here, just because they have the best name ever.

Unfortunately yes. KKE must be the most unreconstructed communist party in Europe.
It's the only communist party that still opposes EU, and hasn't denounced Stalin's pogroms and the 1968 russian intervention in Czechoslovakia.

Their analysis after every election where they fail to significantly increase their vote share is the same:  the people wanted to vote for us but the corporate media and the evil capitalists bamboozled and blackmailed them to vote for the two big parties. And they say it with a straight face.

Papandreou himself isn't that bad, he sounds reformist and moderate, but the PASOK, to my knowledge, remains dominated by old archaic 'elephants' and old interests that die hard.

That pretty much nails it. Altough I have to admit that Papandreou cleaned up the party by many of these dinosaurs.
His move to leave out of the ballot former prime minister Simitis gave his favorability a significant boost.

I'm in Tolo right now on graduation trip....what were the results like here? I didn't really see much of the election live, just happened to pass by a TV on our way to dinner last night and heard that the government had been thrown out.

For the district (Argolidos) you're in...

ND: 42.5%
PASOK: 42.3%
KKE: 4.5%
LAOS: 4.2%
SYRIZA: 3.1%
Greens: 1.7%

Second lowest percentage for ND in a district they still won.

Couldn't District Fokidas flip from PASOK to ND at the last minute though? According to the Greek MoI site, there's one station still to report and with 139/140 reporting PASOK are winning by just 167 votes...

Their supporters are sort of insular. (Literally, to a statistically relevant extent - check Lesbos, Samos, and the Ionian Islands. Cheesy )

ΚΚΕ has a very long history. Before 1989 and the collapse of the socialist regimes of Eastern Europe it toped around 13-15%.
And in a relatively poor country like Greece it's inevitable that parties like KKE will always have a modest succes.
