A girl I went to high school with died from an overdose on Friday. I didn't know her or much about her besides her profane rants about Christians, fellow students, and teachers on Facebook and she left the school during Junior year. Still quite sad to see somebody dead so young.

Rest in peace Sad

I met someone in the Star Wars fandom who I really hit it off with and was concerned my girlfriend might get jealous over. Turns out she and my girlfriend are friends.

First day of the first class of the new semester went really well.

The professor wanted to do the Stand Up and Tell Everyone A Little About Yourself game and I accidentally called everyone in the room fat.
....how did that come about? Tongue

Today, there was a successful concert for the orchestra I play in. Attendance was pretty low, and the second violins were pretty sketchy (it's always the second violins), but we actually did better than I'd anticipated.

And, a mere one day after the concert, the group was dissolved because the bureaucrats defunded us. We'll have to wait until fall to see if we'll get funding again, but it was implied that it's unlikely. I, honestly speaking, don't know what to think anymore. Perhaps they'll change their tune once they realize that the music students' GPAs are keeping our school afloat.

Haha, good luck, wish you the best, but why would they cave? What are you going to do, not do well in protest? They'll direct funding towards lesser individuals to bring them up rather than reward the already successful...such is the American (educational) way

The way I see it, if we (our music program) were funded more we'd be able to enroll more people in our program, which would help them to improve in turn. Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do except head to the school board meeting when it's time to figure out our next budget.

Hi all.  I've been busy.  Been chair of my department for a semester now; got some good things accomplished and am, most importantly, still alive.  I really wish the folks in Springfield would pass a budget for this year.  If my university doesn't get state money by July 1st, I'll ask someone to send an FC update on my behalf as I sit outside on some hill in Jackson County and count the stars at night.

Hope everyone is well!

They pinpointed the site of the Salem Witch Trial gallows. It was my old backyard.

At one point, we caught a few homeless people who were staying there.

Heh. My house also had the same problem, including a homelessman who tried to force his way in during Hurricane Wilma. And the police of course did nothing about it besides lecture my father on his apparent inhumanity.

Also in Sanchez land, it turns out my Uncle bought his powerball ticket in Melbourne, where the winner (who has not come forward yet) bought the ticket from. So his odds of winning are up like 200%.

I learned today that my great grandfather was a delegate for Coolidge at the 1924 Republican National Convention and that his father was a delegate at the 1860 convention and he voted for Sumner on the first ballot, Salmon Chase on the 2nd and Lincoln on the third. I thought it was cool that my ancestors were ancestral republicans

Get well soon!

Today I discovered that I am the Ben Carson of university debating.

In a good, first debate way, or in a bad, sixth debate way?

I guess in the first debate way, in the sense that I'm a pretty dull speaker, and thought that I was basically just stumbling my way through semi-coherently talking a lot of nonsense and yet somehow I still won and people said it was a good speech.

Nice, dude! There's always room for improvement, but you must be doing something right. Keep it up!

That's kind of awesome, actually. Most sides of my family haven't been in the United States long enough for anything like that, but my father's father's father helped found the Baltimore Orioles (well, move the St. Louis Browns to Baltimore and rename them, technically) and was knighted by the Pope.

I applied for the Republican Leadership Initiative today. Hopefully it goes well.
