Heller's appointment to the Senate will take effect the same day as Ensign's resignation; May 3rd.  Sandoval has already set the special election date for September 13th.

In a shock to nobody, Sharron Angle is already in.  Brian Krolicki is likely to announce next week, as might (GOP Chairman) Mark Amodei.  State Sen. Greg Brower and ex-naval officer Kirk Lippold are also already in.  Kate Marshall is a potential for the Democrats, and probably their strongest bet.

However, there is a brewing sh**t-storm, in that Ross Miller will decide how the candidates gain access to the ballot.  The likelihood is that he'll go with the 'free for all' method, which is the easiest path for Angle, while for obvious reasons the GOP will prefer to select their nominee by central committee.  Either way, expect lawsuits filed against Miller.  His decision will be announced on Monday.

Do all the Republican candidates live in Reno or in the Northern part of NV-02. If its in say the NV-02 part of Clark, or in Nye county, then they will likely be in a district with Heck.

Pretty sure they're all from Reno or Carson City.

Same for Marshall?

Reno.

This could end up like the end of the original Casino Royale with everybody going crazy, fighting each other, Americans charging in on Horses, Indians dropping out of planes, and Sharron Angle playing the part of Woody Allen and exploding at the end.

That already happened at the NVGOP convention in 2008.  Of course it was the fourth Sharron Angle who exploded there, however.  We're currently on the... seventh? Sharron Angle by now.

You're likely right, but Greg Brower is still in.

Amodei vs. Marshall it is then.  That's assuming the judge's ruling is upheld, and the parties nominate their candidates by committee.  Amodei has rather an advantage over his opponents there...

Interesting Ralston interview with Ross Miller, re: ballot royale:

So, if the ruling is upheld, we'll know the nominees by the end of this month.

No surprise there.

FTR, Amodei won 221 votes, Greg Brower won 56, and Kirk Lippold 46.  Lippold has said he'll continue his campaign anyway, presumably now in hope that Miller's ruling is upheld.

The Dems will meet next Saturday to anoint Kate Marshall.

Kate Marshall won the Dem nomination today... 117 votes out of 122.

On Tuesday the NV Supreme Court will hear the case against Miller to see if it'll just be Amodei vs. Marshall, or all 29 (!) candidates who filed to run.

I wanna know who here is actually pleased that it'll just be those two?

Republicans.

Kirk Lippold had the potential to turn this race into a retread of the recent specials in New York.

A debate happened, apparently.

I also just found out that there are two other candidates in the election; both of them random right-wing Indies.

A second debate happened, this time without the two indies.  Apparently it was pretty lively.

Great job, Kate:

[quote author=http://dailycaller.com/2011/08/24/marshall-campaign-mistakenly-leaves-note-in-statement-explaining-political-strategy/

]Nevadans watching the special election in the state’s 2nd Congressional District saw some of the political strategy behind Democratic candidate Kate Marshall’s campaign Wednesday, when an internal comment was mistakenly left in a statement emailed out.

[...] The statement described the recent increase in violence in Israel and expressed sympathy for the families and friends of the dead. It also called on Egypt to police its borders to prevent terrorists from entering Israel that way.

[...]

Lest the reader wonder why Marshall was issuing such a statement, the campaign unintentionally provided a helpful explanation:

“Background: Israel has been in the news lately, and will be even more in the news with [Glenn] Beck’s ‘Rally to Restore Courage’ in Jerusalem. In an R district, it will be useful to express support for Israel and demonstrate some foreign policy prowess while it is a timely topic — especially for people who are likely paying attention to Beck’s event.”

It might be worth mentioning that Todd Russell, the district court judge who ruled against Ross Miller to ensure that this was a 1 Democrat vs. 1 Republican race, was law partners with Mark Amodei and co-owns a small mining claim with him.

Incidentally, Russell has also been assigned the case to determine Nevada's legislative district maps for the next decade.

Hey, Republicans haven't exactly had a stellar track record of holding on to their own seats in special elections of late, so people who expected this to be closer (or even an upset) should be forgiven.  It's easy for Republicans to gloat now, but a few months ago B.S.Bob was nowhere near this thread...
