Honestly it makes no sense, it is only a lower position than he is in right now, I don't get it?

Please somebody tell me, I have  not been able to figure this out for weeks!

It's not unheard of for Statewide candidates to drop down to a more prominent local on such as mayor. I honestly can't think of anything off the top of my head, but there are several on the tip of my tongue.

at any rate, was he term-limited perhaps?

No, NM state auditor position can be held for two consecutive four years terms, and this was the middle of his first, and it was essentially his again if he wanted it.

is being State Auditor really more prestigious and influential than being the Mayor of the state's largest city?

Who?

I feel like New Mexico has the least known batch of politicians of any state in the country. Of the House delegation, the only one I could think of was Steve Pearce - and all this time, I've been confusing him with Russell Pearce, who I thought carpetbagged there for a House seat!

If only they had a couple of 2 term governors run for President in the last decade.

Oh, wait.

On a related note, Hilda Solis went from US Secretary of Labor to the LA County Board of Supervisors.

I've read that the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors is one of the most powerful offices in the entire state of California, so it's not quite as much of a drop down as it seems at first.

Albequerque also probably helps him position for a Federal office run better tbh. He might aim for that congressional district eventually.

And Tom Udall won’t be around forever (though I suspect Hector Balderas has his eye on that)

Is Governor worth at least 4 times Auditor? Because somewhat simplistically, if Albuquerque is 25% of New Mexico, being the executive of that city seems like it might be potentially better than a low-level position state-wide.

in fairness with the issues in Macomb county that makes her look great and sets her up for a gubernatorial run in the future
