Great news, hopefully these laws will deservedly be thrown out.

I think at this point, most of the laws Republicans passed in the special session limiting Cooper's power are now on hold pending outcome of the various lawsuits.

However, this one in particular has me wondering - I thought the state Constitution specifically grants the legislature the power to confirm appointees?

Don't get me wrong - I believe this law was nothing but one party trying to deny the opposition as much power as it can (in combination with their other actions, is all but denying the legitimacy of Democrats to govern), but in this situation the state Constitution seems pretty explicit about the Senate's right to confirm.

Off-topic, but I didn't want to create a new thread for this anywhere. Big league protests in North Carolina today - 80,000+ people:

Trump's ascent has really sparked some fury in this country.

I was there. For the topic, we do need judges to curb decisions that put clear partisanship above our constitutional system of checks and balances.

Those judges are appointed by the very people who are part of the system.  See 2000 Supreme Court decision making Dubya President.

Agreed that judges aren't ideal, though judges have been usually useful recently.
