Looking at the NYT precinct map from 2020, obviously the traditional urban rural divide is present. Interestingly, there also looks to be a massive divide within individual towns. Even when counties are dark red or dark blue overall, it’s hard to find a town core that isn’t blue or an outer ring that isn’t red. Is there any particular reason for this, or is it just a matter of population density differences still existing even in suburbs and random small towns?
