"Mitch McConnell Rules Out 'Lame Duck' Action On Supreme Court" - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2016/03/20/mitch-mcconnell-lame-duck-garland_n_9510818.html

Time for Garland to start persuading Hillary to renominate him I guess.

Yes, because he expects a GOP senate majority to come back. We will see when Strickland, Hassan, Feingold, Edwards, Harris, CCM & Duckworth is gonna fill those seats, and how liberal Clinton's appointment maybe, see how quickly McConnell will turn.

Most likely he's just lying. Right now, there is no benefit at all to saying he would do this, because that would go completely against his "The next president should choose" narrative. He would look like a massive liar and a hypocrite.

Though... Not that he isn't one already Roll Eyes

I'm really looking forward to watching him eat his words on this.

And really, Garland is a good option for them. They have to realize close to the razor's edge they are. Buuut I guess not.

Remember this is what he's saying NOW... if Hillary wins and we get a Democratic Senate, he'll probably change his tune.

I can't believe McConnell called Garland the most liberal judge in history on MTP, though.

He said that? You have to be kidding... right? Maybe a misinterpretation...?

I know McConnell is some of the worst lying, heartless scum the GOP has to offer, but my god, that is a new low for him. One I never thought he could reach, even after the past 7 years.

Yeah, in response to a question by Chuck Todd on "if Hillary wins and Democrats take the Senate, they'll probably nominate a more liberal justice" and McConnell's response was that it's not possible to get more liberal than Merrick Garland.

McConnell is speaking on behalf of GOP in Citizens United, and if they put Gatland on Crt now, it will take away soft money, now rather than later.

He holds out the faint hope that Trump may beat Clinton, if the email scandal gets more burdeonsome for Clinton, eventhough, theirs no smoking gun.

Damn, not McConnell is saying he'll only allow a vote on a Supreme Court Justice ... if ... he/she  has been approved by the NRA.

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2016/03/20/3761908/mcconnell-no-new-supreme-court-justice-until-the-nra-approves-of-the/

Really?

That's saying you'd keep blocking the nomination even if a Democrat does win.

The man has no shame at all. He just spews lies and talking points. He is almost an exact embodiment of everything the Republican anti-establishment movement hates about the GOP.

Good thing that we're highly likely to be in a position this coming January to prove him wrong on just how liberal a Supreme Court justice can get Smiley

Congratulations on committing political suicide!

Of all the things the Republican Party has done this year, ruling out confirming Garland in a lame duck session, is way, way, way down the list.

There was a Liberal strategist who wrote an interesting piece a while back outlining exactly what it takes for a decision, event or scandal to make a really hurt a party. Among other things it is necessary for an event to be distilled into an "elevator pitch" that gets the average Joe mad.

Adultery, taking money from the till etc pass the test. Obscure judicial proceedings, not so much.

To think the Tea Party nuts consider a far right obstructionist like McConnell a left wing RINO. The level of obstruction by the Republican party has been disgraceful.

So, what are the chances with Trump getting the nomination for good that the GOP flips on their anti-Garland outlook?

So, what are the chances with Trump getting the nomination for good that the GOP flips on their anti-Garland outlook?

I can't see it happening at this point (at least until after November 8th), for 2 primary reasons:

1. The backlash from their voters would be worse than just holding out. Their base isn't going to see it as "crap, confirm Garland before Hillary gets in!". Not when so many think that Trump can actually win. All they will see is the crooked establishment doing whatever Obama wants yet again.

2. They already made a huge deal about "giving the people a chance to weigh in", so now it seems almost impossible to go back on that without looking like they want to ignore the people. This fits nicely with #1 above.

Not just yet. Right now they still have to pretend like they think they can win this.

Hopefully Obama withdraws Garland in the lame duck as a big FU to them.

Yeah. If they keep this up, I'll have no remorse if Hillary Clinton nominates the most liberal candidate possible.
