The majority of Americans do not want Roe v. Wade overturned. They want some restrictions in place, but that's it.

I think the Democrats may de-emphasize the issue, but they won't all of a sudden push for Roe v. Wade to be overturned. Why would they??

I am willing to put stock into the article's claims that Democrats in general are turning away from abortion as a wedge issue

The Republicans are the ones who have made it a wedge issue. They make all social issues wedge issues. Their economic policies suck, so they have to rely on divisive social wedge issues.

You Republicans are ridiculous. The majority of Americans do not want Roe v. Wade overturned.

If you want to argue constitutional law, go talk to a lawyer.

Why do you assume that you understand constitutional law?

No one on this board is a lawyer. Republicans give their opinions and pretend they're fact.

Well, if the Democratic Party makes a clear shift from being pro-choice to pro-life, I'd very much welcome that. There are quite a few pro-life Democrats on the Forum

Then the >60% of Americans who are pro-choice would have no major party that represents their views.

Pro-life Democrats are welcome in the party, but overall the party will remain pro-choice. Democrats will work to greatly decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies and abortions in this country through sex education, access to contraception, and increasing the economic well-being of lower and middle class Americans. This is the most productive and least divisive of abortion measures.

Americans may want Roe v. Wade to stay in place, but very few want all abortions, or even nearly all abortions to be legal, as many Democrats pushed.

I believe in parental notification and no abortions after 4 months. I think my views are pretty mainstream on this issue.

And, nearly all Americans at least to some extent would like to see the abortion rate drop.

Exactly why Senator Reid wrote the First Prevention Act, which would help cut the number of abortions in half. This bill is also supported by all Democrats in the Senate.

Unfortunatley, the Republicans won't let the bill get to the floor.

The character and worth of a nation is determined by how they treat the most helpless and vulnerable in society.

The Republican party represents the antithesis of that statement.

That list is skewed because many southerners give 10% of their income to their church.

It proves they're generous to their church.

I said the Republican party (meaning Republican politicians), not average Republicans (although many of them fit the description as well).
