The Cubs' bullpen has some serious weak spots. Its hard to get excited about the new look team when some guy is going to come in in relief and meltdown and hand the game away.

Just 4 games in. Just 4 games in. Just 4 games in. Just 4 games in...

The Red Sox are currently on track to be swept at home by the Pittsburgh Pirates, something that has never happened in the history of baseball. The last time the Red Sox lost a series to the Pirates was in Pittsburgh during the 2014 season.

An interesting tidbit: the Red Sox and Pirates did not play each other during the regular season or postseason at all from 1904-2002.

That's your fun fact? Not the most iconic moment that cemented baseball as a force of American culture?

Honus, why do you hit so badly

The AA Rocket City Trash Pandas somehow allowed no hits through seven innings and still lost 7-5 to the Chattanooga Lookouts.

Quote
The Los Angeles Angels' Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas allowed one hit in a doubleheader and only got a split.

Three pitchers combined on a seven-inning, no-hitter for the Trash Pandas only to lose 7-5 to the Cincinnati Reds' Chattanooga Lookouts in Saturday's opener after wildness caused a seven-run top of the seventh.

Rocket City pitchers walked five, hit four batters and threw a run-scoring wild pitch in the seventh inning and were hurt by a dropped fly ball with the bases loaded on what would have been the final out.

The above story reminds me of a playoff game a while back where the Braves scored four runs on no hits in one inning thanks to a combination of walks, multiple hit batters, and errors.

Of course, for sheer baseball ineptitude, nothing will ever top Tommy John committing three errors on one play.

The Rays are up to 9-0. They've also outscored their three opponents (The Tigers, Nationals and A's), 75-18 in those nine games.

Braves finished a 3-game sweep of the Reds, winning all 3 by one run on a late-game comeback.

As a Cards fan, I'm excited for the season.  We got this rookie, Jordan Walker.  Young, big and strong with a great attitude.
what an illustrious list!  Some all time greats there.

The Tampa Bay Rays winning streak to start a season got snapped at 13 games, as the Toronto Blue Jays won 6-3 tonight.

Last night, Cardinals OF Jordan Walker's 12-game hits streak to start his MLB career ended.

I don't know for certain, but it seems like that's the catcher's ball to play as he has his momentum going in the correct direction.  That would be a very hard play for the pitcher to make.

Through almost one month of the season, Shohei Ohtani has an ERA of 0.64.

He's not hitting as well as he did the last couple of years though.

In tonight's Braves win over the Marlins, Spencer Strider threw 81 strikes and 20 balls in 8 innings, a strike/ball ratio of 4.05:1.  This is the highest ratio I recall seeing offhand, and I was wondering what the record for a starting pitcher is, but I can't seem to find it online.  Anyone know?

Cardinals OF Jordan Walker got sent down to AAA Memphis.

INF/OF Taylor Motter, who was DFA'd a couple days ago, is back up with the big club.

The Pirates have shown an unusual willingness to spend money, signing Bryan Reynolds to a long-term extension.

Quote
The Pittsburgh Pirates and switch-hitting outfielder Bryan Reynolds have agreed to an eight-year extension, the team announced Wednesday. The deal is worth more than $106 million and includes a club option for the 2031 season, as well as no-trade protections for Reynolds. It does not include an opt-out, CBS Sports HQ has confirmed.

Reynolds' pact eclipses teammate Ke'Bryan Hayes' extension for the most guaranteed money in Pirates franchise history. Hayes, Pittsburgh's starting third baseman, signed an eight-year deal worth $70 million in April 2022.

Cardinals announcer Mike Shannon died at 83. He was the announcer on radio for the club for 50 years, the majority of them on KMOX.

Last night Shohei Ohtani became the second player to have five hundred strikeouts as a pitcher and one hundred home runs as a hitter.

The other one? One George Herman Ruth.
