I can't believe there are people who support this a-hole.  Are you trying to further divide the Democratic party?  If so, go ahead and nominate someone who called Bernie insensitive for not wanting to penalize store owners if someone who bought a gun from their store commits a crime.  All that while she used to brag she's the most conservative and gun-friendly member of the NY delegation.
Her and Chris Murphy were Hillary's most vicious and dishonest attack dogs and they have no business speaking for the party (if our goal is to unite the party).
If you want to know who Gillibrand really is, watch what Emma Vigeland thinks of her:

Cory Booker may be a corporatist, but hey, at least he rescues kittens and lets homeless people stay at his house.  Gillibrand on the other hand is a despicable human being.

Uhg, give me a fresh face.

I hate pretty much every name being floated out by Democrats. We need someone new. Maybe someone who isn't a Senator or Governor.

All you need to know about this fake a** "progressive": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzbBB_uN9ns

She's one of the most pathetic choices the Dems could make.  I honestly wish Zephyr Teachout would primary her.

You will find quoting TYT here reduces your cred to zero.

As is clear from this thread, there'll be a lot of opposition to her from the misogynist Bernie Bro left. I'm confident she'll be able to overcome them though, as they remain a marginalized and largely irrelevant force in the party.

I'm not that enthusiastic about her as a candidate, but I'd support her if she ran. Both to rep my home state and because it would be ironic if Trump beat a former Class 1 Female Senator from New York only to lose to the current Class 1 Female Senator from New York

I mean she's the only one in the senate caucus standing up to all of Trump's nominees. That has to count for something.

But because she's a blonde New Yorker in Hillary's seat, people feel like they need to hate her.

Exactly. Or the idea that, because she's done a lot of work on "women's issues," she's some neoliberal fiscally right-wing shill who will campaign as a pro-business SJW. It's absurd. They just want an excuse to hate her.

Gillibrand strikes many, including me, as Hillary Lite, with all the benefits and drawbacks of that. In many ways she doesn't have the baggage of Hillary, but has a history of moderate votes, especially in the House. She's gone HAM on Trump cabinet picks though.

Why? because you don't like his view point? Lief can be trollish at times but he is one of the best posters here.

FTR - I agree with you about Gillibrand (well, not so much about the corporatist aspect, since I'm a establishment republican), she's a very calculating individual, politically. I think she's very suspect in her motives.

She carves out a political image for herself depending on where she is and what office she holds. Good ole blue dog in the House and feminist liberator in the Senate.

She's a massive HP.

Just how much is she doubling down on the identity politics stuff, though? While I utterly loathe the entire phenomenon of "performative intersectionalism", and am ever more receptive to left-critiques of financialisation and economic short-termism (which HRC put out an admittedly admirable policy paper on back in 2015 but appeared to promptly forget), I'm not sure just how deep an embrace of identity politics is needed in order to justify shunning a candidate in favor of the presumable alternative of class based "democratic socialism".

But to clear, when I talk about "identity politics", I don't mean anodyne corporate "diversity promotion" or "Lean In" thinking. I'm talking about reductionistic "intersectional" theories that are hostile to free speech and intellectual freedom, promote pseudoscience and gross distortions of history in the name of "affirming the lived experiences of marginalised people folks", encourage victimisation mentalities; and the corresponding practices of ethnic "votebank politics", demographically-induced triumphalism, overt racial antagonism, and the idea that "justice" can effectively be dictated to the erstwhile oppressors without regard for their views. Obama dabbled in some elements of this while condemning others.

Does Gillibrand embrace this agenda?

I hope Booker Gillibrand and cuomo all run. Because I like none of them and they will eat up each others air and donors.  Leaving the left wing candidate the only one the voters can remember that didnt sound like normal boring politician.

I have heard People make the argument people will want boring politicians again after Trump. I disagree because boring politicians usually are liars. If you can get a boring one who isn't a liar and not from the Northeast maybe you have a chance.    Kamala Harris they will dress up as a crosbreed Beyonce/Michelle Obama.

Barack Obama once expressed his desire for Harris.

Cuomo and Gillibrand aren't both running. At best we'll see the established wing of the party go on all assault between Booker Warren like Cruz and Bush.

Just like how Bush and Rubio won't both run?  Tongue
