The base would've stayed home even more than they did now. It would've been McCain's dalliance with Lieberman and Ridge all over again. Any gains he made with moderates would've been cancelled out by lost turnout. As for Hispanics- not as long as Romney sounded like he wanted to deport grandmothers, to quote Gingrich and Rubio. No VP could've done anything to save Romney and Boston from themselves, assuming the campaign otherwise played out similarly. A D+6 turnout can't be fixed with a VP pick.
