To be fair, the PRC are pretty touchy about everything.

In the couple years before his death Mao lamented several times privately that he made a mistake in 1949 in proclaiming PRC.  He said that decision kept his regime outside the UN for 20+ years since  ROC was a founding member of the UN.  He indicated he was better off in making the claim that his Beijing regime is the true ROC versus the Taipei regime than trying to display ROC by PRC.  He said, and I agree with him, that he should have just proclaimed in 1949 that his government is the new ROC and that the Taipei regime a displaced and overthrown government.  Perhaps Trump is carrying out one of Mao's last wishes.
