Why, may I ask, is Carter your favorite President? I can completely understand why you may not hold Carter to the disdain that right-wingers do, but what did he do specifically that makes him your favorite President? The Camp David Accords? Just curious.

Uh, no.

@Han. Basically, because of his push for alternative energies, his push for real cooperation in the Middle East (i.e. the Camp David Accords), his willingness to not simply bow down to Israel, and, of course, his work after the Presidency (Habitat for Humanity, etc.)

I think the general agreeableness and genuineness of Jimmy Carter clouds many liberals' judgment.  He has by far done a better job as a former president than he did as president.  Still, I hold many of his ideals to heart.  I believe he was too brutally honest with the American people when they were looking for a message of hope for the future.  People don't like a negative Nancy, even when things are in the sh**tter economically and politically.

So as a president, Carter was mediocre.. but as a human being, he is a great man.

Well, exactly. Truthfully, he had a crapy Presidency. That doesn't mean what he tried or wanted to do (and in some cases succeeded) was bad. But, he was too stubborn. He refused to work with Dems. in Congress, and refused to play politics as usual. That makes for a great campaign theme, but it's horrible politics.
