it seems that there are two contradictory stereotypes of jewish people in regards to foreign policy. One is sort of the hawkish foreign policy type that is hell bent on preserving Israel (think Joe Liebermann or Jane Harman). At the same time, however,weren't a lot of the antiwar activists 40 years ago disproportionately jewish?

Not just 40 years ago. I'd bet a much greater percentage of Jews were against the Iraq War than among the public at large when it began.

*unless that group happens to be the group we are trying to get others to look negatively upon....but we're good people here, so we mostly only do that to Muslims, FundieChristians and libertarians.

Jews as a whole seem to be a fairly leftist group, except when it comes to Israel. Even the most liberal Jews I know can outdo Wolfowitz when it comes to hawkishness, when Israel is the issue.
