ELECTION NIGHT 2020
Part 1

CNN's America's Choice Music Theme : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uvpd4myQXs

Wolf Blitzer : Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I'm Wolf Blitzer of CNN and I welcome you to the coverage of Election Night 2020, a night that will decide who between incumbent President Marco Rubio or Senator Bernie Sanders will occupy the White House and lead America in the next four years.

Wolf Blitzer : So now it's 6 pm, we can see the first reports of Election Night 2020. In the states of Indiana and Kentucky, we can project that Marco Rubio is largely in the lead over Bernie Sanders.

6:00 pm

Indiana - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 68 %
Bernie Sanders : 23 %

Kentucky - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 75 %
Bernie Sanders : 21 %

Electoral College 2020

Marco Rubio : 0 electoral vote, 0 % of the vote
Bernie Sanders : 0 electoral vote, 0 % of the vote
270 needed to win

7:00 pm

Wolf Blitzer : It's 7 pm, and we have our first projections for the night. We project that President Marco Rubio will win in Indiana and its 11 electoral votes. We can also project that President Rubio easily wins in Kentucky and its 8 electoral votes. And another projection right now : Bernie Sanders will win his home state of Vermont this state's 3 electoral votes.

Indiana - 5 % reported
Marco Rubio : 69 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 26 %

Kentucky - 5 % reported
Marco Rubio : 77 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 22 %

Vermont - 1 % reported
Bernie Sanders : 60 % ✔
Marco Rubio : 34 %

Wolf Blitzer : In the states of Georgia and South Carolina it is too early to call but the President is largely in the lead. When it comes to Virginia it is too close to call.

Georgia - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 59 %
Bernie Sanders : 33 %

South Carolina - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 66 %
Bernie Sanders : 29 %

Virginia - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 50 %
Bernie Sanders : 44 %

Wolf Blitzer : Now let's take a look to the Senate race. In Kentucky, we can project that Republican Congressman James Comer will secure the senate seat of retiring Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, defeating his Democratic opponent Ambassador Matthew Barzun.

Kentucky Senatorial election
James Comer : 56 % ✔
Matthew Barzun : 41 %

Wolf Blitzer : Until now, President Rubio is now leading with 19 electoral votes while Bernie Sanders has 3 electoral votes. Remember, a presidential candidate needs to get 270 great electors to win the presidential election.

Electoral College 2020

Marco Rubio : 19 electoral votes, 59.16 % of the vote
Bernie Sanders : 3 electoral votes, 36.94 % of the vote
270 needed to win

7:25 pm

Wolf Blitzer : It is 7 : 25 pm and we can declare President Rubio the winner in the state of Georgia. So Marco Rubio collects Georgia's 16 electoral votes. The President has also won Vice-President Haley's home state of South Carolina and the Palmetto State's 9 electoral votes.

Georgia - 7 % reported
Marco Rubio : 65 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 35 %

South Carolina - 7 % reported
Marco Rubio : 64 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 30 %

7:30 pm

Wolf Blitzer : Now it's 7 : 30 pm and we can declare that the President trounces Bernie Sanders in the coal country state of West Virginia.

West Virginia - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 73 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 20 %

Wolf Blitzer : We now have new projections in the state of North Carolina where it is too early to call but President has a wide lead. In the state of Virginia it is still too close to call but Marco Rubio is on the right track to become the first Republican since 2004 to win the state of Virginia.

Anderson Cooper : And that could be done thanks to his strong advantage over Bernie Sanders on foreign policy and counter-terrorism issues due to the fact that an important number of voters in Virginia are either in or connected to the military, especially in Northern and Southwestern Virginia, which explains why the President held so many campaign events in Virginia, highlighting his foreign policy accomplishments such as a stronger military, the success of the military intervention against ISIS in Syria and Iraq, the elimination of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, victory in the War in Afghanistan and the denuclearization of North Korea.

Virginia - 15 % reported
Marco Rubio : 57 %
Bernie Sanders : 36 %

North Carolina - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 57 %
Bernie Sanders : 36 %

John King : And also in the state of Ohio, the bellwhether of every presidential election, President Rubio has a strong lead over Senator Sanders. This must be due, notably, to the success of his free trade policies that reinforced America's trade power, ensured job creation and managed to keep manufacturing jobs home thanks to tax reform and also due to the fact that an important part of Ohio's energy industry is based on fossil energy, the moreover that under President Rubio, we got to energy independence.

Ohio - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 55 %
Bernie Sanders : 35 %

Anderson Cooper : And in addition, the Democrats could lose their Minority Leader in the House of Representatives Tim Ryan in Ohio's 13th congressional district, which might depend on President Rubio's statewide performance in Ohio.

7:45 pm

Wolf Blitzer : We can now project that Puerto Rican voters have chosen, in the context of today's status referendum in Puerto Rico and with a 75 % turnout, the statehood option, which means that Puerto Rico could become the 51st U.S. state next year.

Puerto Rican Status Referendum[/u]
Statehood : 64 %
Current Status : 32 %
Free Association/Independence : 4 %

Wolf Blitzer : Right now, as we are approaching the 8 pm poll closings, here's how the Electoral Map looks like : 49 electoral votes for President Rubio and 3 electoral votes for Senator Sanders. We'll take a short commercial break and we'll come back in a few minutes. Stay tuned.

Electoral College 2020

Marco Rubio : 49 electoral votes, 59.95 % of the vote
Bernie Sanders : 3 electoral votes, 35.56 % of the vote
270 needed to win

ELECTION NIGHT 2020
Part 2

CNN's America's Choice Music Theme : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uvpd4myQXs

Wolf Blitzer : Welcome back ladies and gentlemen to the coverage of Election Night 2020. At 8 pm, we're going to have a wave of new projections.

8:00 pm
Wolf Blitzer : We can now project that President Rubio has won the states of Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi while Senator Sanders has won the states of Massachusetts, the home state of his running mate former Governor Deval Patrick, as well as Rhode Island, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Surprisingly, we are not yet able to project the states of New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut and Illinois due to President Rubio's strong approval ratings nationally and to his efforts to target these traditional Democratic states. For the state of Missouri as well as in President Rubio's home state of Florida, it is too early to call but he is strongly in the lead in both of these states. Also in the states of Pennsylvania and Michigan it is too close to call, but the President is leading. The same for the states of New Hampshire and Maine.

Alabama - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 69 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 27 %

Tennessee - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 66 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 32 %

Mississippi - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 65 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 30 %

Massachusetts - 1 % reported
Bernie Sanders : 59 % ✔
Marco Rubio : 38 %

Rhode Island - 1 % reported
Bernie Sanders : 55 % ✔
Marco Rubio : 40 %

Maryland - 1 % reported
Bernie Sanders : 56 % ✔
Marco Rubio : 42 %

District of Columbia - 1 % reported
Bernie Sanders : 79 % ✔
Marco Rubio : 19 %

Connecticut - 1 % reported
Bernie Sanders : 48 %
Marco Rubio : 44 %

Delaware - 1 % reported
Bernie Sanders : 49 %
Marco Rubio : 45 %

New Jersey - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 47 %
Bernie Sanders : 45 %

Illinois - 1 % reported
Bernie Sanders : 46 %
Marco Rubio : 41 %

Missouri - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 59 %
Bernie Sanders : 34 %

Florida - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 57 %
Bernie Sanders : 35 %

Pennsylvania - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 55 %
Bernie Sanders : 42 %

Michigan - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 53 %
Bernie Sanders : 44 %

New Hampshire - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 52 %
Bernie Sanders : 44 %

Maine - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 48 %
Bernie Sanders : 45 %

John King : It seems that his message on free trade highlighting the benefits of his free trade policies on the auto industry, including in Detroit, while slamming Bernie Sanders' populist agenda that would rip free trade agreements that brought massive job creation in the last four years, has worked.

Wolf Blitzer : In the senate races, we can see that Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions will defeat his Democratic opponent Robert Kennedy Jr., winning a 5th term. Meanwhile in Tennessee, former Governor Bill Haslam will win Lamar Alexander's senate seat.

Alabama Senatorial election
Jeff Sessions : 64 % ✔
Robert Kennedy Jr. : 36 %

Tennessee Senatorial election
Bill Haslam : 63 % ✔
Tim McGraw : 37 %

8:30 pm

Wolf Blitzer : At 8 : 30 pm we can project that the President unsurprisingly wins the states of Missouri and Arkansas. We can also announce that the President has won the battleground state of North Carolina. He increased his lead in his home state of Florida after sweeping the Orange County (home to Orlando) and the Hillsborough county (home to Tampa) and all their neighboring counties. Meanwhile, in the state of Michigan, President Rubio is leading after demonstrating his strength in Michigan's eastern counties and among the state's working class voters.

Arkansas - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 67 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 30 %

Missouri - 10 % reported
Marco Rubio : 60 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 33 %

North Carolina - 50 % reported
Marco Rubio : 58 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 35 %

8:45 pm

Wolf Blitzer : It is now 8 : 45 pm and we can make the projection that President Rubio has won his home state of Florida, adding 29 electoral votes to his column.

Florida - 45 % reported
Marco Rubio : 62 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 36 %

Wolf Blitzer : In Arkansas, Senator Tom Cotton is projected to win re-election, beating his opponent former Governor Mike Beebe.

Arkansas Senatorial election
Tom Cotton : 56 % ✔
Mike Beebe : 43 %

Wolf Blitzer : Right now, President Rubio has 142 electoral votes, leading Bernie Sanders who has 31 electoral votes in his column. We'll see you in a few minutes after the commercial break for the 9 pm poll closings.

Electoral College 2020

Marco Rubio : 142 electoral votes, 60.85 % of the vote
Bernie Sanders : 31 electoral votes, 37.3 % of the vote
270 needed to win

9:00 pm

Wolf Blitzer : It is 9 pm right now and here are the projections : President Rubio will win the states of Texas, Lousiana, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota and Wyoming. Bernie Sanders has won the state of New York where he was born.

Texas - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 64 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 35 %

Louisiana - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 64 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 31 %

Kansas - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 62 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 33 %

Nebraska - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 67 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 30 %

South Dakota - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 68 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 29 %

North Dakota - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 72 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 26 %

Wyoming - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 76 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 20 %

New York - 1 % reported
Bernie Sanders : 52 % ✔
Marco Rubio : 42 %

Wolf Blitzer : The President is leading in Wisconsin for similar reasons as Ohio and Michigan. He's also leading in Colorado due, notably, to his strong showing among Hispanic voters. He now has over 200 electoral votes while Bernie Sanders has only 60.

9:11 pm

Wolf Blitzer : At 9 : 11 pm we can now project that President Rubio has won the state of Ohio, which are great news for his re-election campaign since no Republican has ever won a presidential race without winning the state of Ohio since 1964. In fact, the President became the first Republican to win the Franklin County (home to Columbus) since 1992 in addition of sweeping Ohio's northeastern counties, including the Summit County (home to Akron) and the Lorain county (home to Lorain), and the southwestern counties, including the Hamilton (home to Cincinnati). So the President of the United States wins Ohio and its 18 electoral votes.

Ohio - 55 % reported
Marco Rubio : 59 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 38 %

Wolf Blitzer : And in North Carolina, we can report that Thom Tillis has defeated former mayor of Charlotte Antony Foxx for a second term in the Senate.

North Carolina Senatorial election
Thom Tillis : 53 % ✔
Anthony Foxx : 46 %

9:30 pm

Wolf Blitzer : At 9 : 30 pm we can project that the state of Virginia will go to the President of the United States. His foreign policy successes and his strong showing among ethnic minority voters seem to have helped him to win this battleground state.

Virginia - 65 % reported
Marco Rubio : 55 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 42 %

9:40 pm

Wolf Blitzer : At 9 : 40 pm we have another major projection : the state of Michigan will go to President Rubio. Thanks to the strong economic prosperity the country is now living, to the fact that America is now number one in auto production again, to the benefits of free trade and to his lead among Independent voters, the President has carried the state of Michigan.

Michigan - 70 % reported
Marco Rubio : 55 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 40 %

Wolf Blitzer : When it comes to the senate race in Maine, Senator Susan Collins has won a 5th term.

Maine Senatorial election
Susan Collins : 62 % ✔
Mike Michaud : 38 %

Wolf Blitzer : President Rubio has 255 electoral votes and so he needs only 15 more electoral votes to win re-election while Bernie Sanders still has 60 electoral votes. His path to 270 has now become improbable if not impossible. So we'll come back to you after the commercial break for the 10 pm projections.

Electoral College 2020

Marco Rubio : 255 electoral votes, 61 % of the vote
Bernie Sanders : 60 electoral votes, 37 % of the vote
270 needed to win

ELECTION NIGHT 2020
Part 3

CNN's America's Choice Music Theme : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uvpd4myQXs

Wolf Blitzer : Welcome back to the coverage of Election Night 2020. It is now 9 : 50 pm, we have new projections.

9:50 pm
Wolf Blitzer : In the senate race in New Jersey, we can project that Cory Booker, the runner up in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries has been re-elected for another six years, defeating his Republican opponent former Administrator of EPA Christine Todd Whitman. This is a rather fair margin due to Mrs. Whitman's ability to appeal among moderate and some liberal voters in New Jersey due to her pro-choice stance, which made this senate race competitive, but at the end Cory Booker has won it. That could propel him for a 2024 run if Bernie Sanders loses tonight.

New Jersey Senatorial election
Cory Booker : 52 % ✔
Christine Todd Whitman : 46 %

Anderson Cooper : And in Virginia, we can project that Congressman Scott Taylor has defeated Mark Warner, marking a gain for the Republicans in the Senate.

Virginia Senatorial election
Scott Taylor : 51 % ✔
Mark Warner : 48 %

9:55 pm
Wolf Blitzer : We have another projection to make : businessman Gary Cohn has defeated the Leader of the Democratic Minority in the House of Representatives Tim Ryan in a close election, which marks a blow for the Democrats. This is, of course, due to President Rubio's landslide victory in Ohio where he managed to win the Franklin County (home to Columbus), the Hamilton County (home to Cincinnati) and the Summit County (home to Akron). The Republicans increased their efforts in Ohio's 13th district since even though this district had this tendency of being won by the Democrats by over 25 percentage points, Hillary Clinton has won it by only 6 percentage points four years ago, which gave optimism for the Republicans, enough to defeat Tim Ryan.

Ohio's 13th congressional district election
Gary Cohn : 52 % ✔
Tim Ryan : 48 %

10:00 pm
Wolf Blitzer : Now is 10 pm and we can now make projections at the presidential level : as expected, President Rubio will win the states of Montana and Utah, which gets him at 264 electoral votes, which means he only needs 6 more electoral votes to be re-elected.

Montana - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 64 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 31 %

Utah - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 71 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 23 %

Anderson Cooper : In the state of Iowa, it is too early to call but President Rubio is largely leading there due to his focus on economic issues in this time of prosperity and on agriculture. In the state of Arizona it is too early to call but the President has wide lead in this Republican stronghold. In the states of Nevada and New Mexico it is too close to call, but President Rubio has a clear advantage over Bernie Sanders in these two states.

Iowa - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 53 %
Bernie Sanders : 39 %

Nevada - 1 % reported
Marco Rubio : 55 %
Bernie Sanders : 37 %

New Mexico - 1 % reported[/b]
Marco Rubio : 51 %
Bernie Sanders : 40 %

Wolf Blitzer : And in the senate races, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt has won Pat Roberts' senate seat over Democrat Eliott Adams. In Nebraska, Senator Ben Sasse will easily win re-election for a second six-year term after defeating Mike Meister. And Texas Senator and Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn will be re-elected for a 4th term, crushing former Houston Mayor Bill White.

Kansas Senatorial election
Derek Schimdt : 63 % ✔
Eliott Adams : 35 %

Nebraska Senatorial election
Ben Sasse : 68 % ✔
Mike Meister : 32 %

Texas Senatorial election
John Cornyn : 62 % ✔
Bill White : 35 %

Wolf Blitzer : So like I said, President Rubio has 264 electoral votes and needs 6 more electoral votes to win a second term.

Electoral College 2020

Marco Rubio : 264 electoral votes, 62 % of the vote
Bernie Sanders : 60 electoral votes, 36.96 % of the vote
270 needed to win

John King : So it seems that President Rubio seems poised for a sweep in the West due to his large leads in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, the moreover that he could become the first Republican in 30 years to win California, Oregon and Washington in a presidential election.

Anderson Cooper : That's right. And it was very helpful for the Republicans to hold the 2020 Republican National Convention in Las Vegas, which gave President Rubio a strong advantage over Bernie Sanders in Nevada where he spent a part of his childhood and where he has strong Hispanic support. The moreover that he attacked Sanders on his opposition to the Immigration Reform Act of 2007 and that he highlighted his success in reforming the immigration system and he is the first Hispanic President.

Wolf Blitzer : And it seems that the third presidential debate between President Rubio and Senator Sanders that I moderated in Albuquerque, New Mexico, two weeks ago, that was about foreign policy gave the President a massive boost due to the fact that foreign policy is his stronghold, to his foreign policy accomplishments and to his large victory over Sanders during that debate, something that seems to have resonated in New Mexico voters' minds. So who knows, maybe he could win the Bernalillo County, which could increase his chances of victory in New Mexico.

Anderson Cooper : That's right. One of the reasons why George W. Bush won New Mexico in 2004 was because John Kerry won the Bernalillo County by only 4 percentage points (51 % to 47 %) so a victory for Marco Rubio in this county would drastically increase the likelyhood of victory in New Mexico, a state he has won in 2016.

Wolf Blitzer : And now it is 10 : 15 pm and we can make a special, major and historic projection.

10:15 pm

Wolf Blitzer : CNN projects that Marco Rubio will be re-elected President of the United States. He will
win a second term and occupy the White House for another four years because we project that he will win the state of Pennsylvania. By winning Pennsylvania, he adds 20 more electoral votes to his count, thus putting him at 284 electoral votes, which is 14 more electoral votes than the 270 threshold needed to win the election. So President Rubio, the 45th President of the United States, will be re-elected for a second term, defeating Bernie Sanders.

Pennsylvania - 65 % reported
Marco Rubio : 55 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 41 %

MARCO RUBIO IS RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

Wolf Blitzer : We can now watch the reactions of his supporters in his campaign headquarters in Miami, Florida. And we can watch in New York that the Empire State Building is turning red due to President Rubio's re-election.

Marco Rubio : 284 electoral votes, 61.5 % of the vote ✔
Bernie Sanders : 60 electoral votes, 37.2 % of the vote
270 needed to win

Anderson Cooper : So President Rubio's strategy in Pennsylvania focusing on economic issues and jobs has proven to be successful.

Joe King : In fact he reminded voters that Pennsylvania is home to 50 Fortune 500 companies such as U.S. Steel, PPG Industries, H.J. Heinz and GE Transportation Systems. He described this as a symbol of America’s prosperity thanks to free enterprise and free market and he highlighted the effectiveness of the Rubionomics that created 12 million new jobs in the last four years thanks to tax cuts on businesses, energy independence and free trade, which made America the best business-friendly environment in the world while slamming Sanders on his agenda including an increase of the size of government and tax increases for American workers and businesses, which would have, quote, « made America a harder place to do business and would have overshipped businesses and jobs overseas. »

Anderson Cooper : And due to the fact that President Rubio kept his promise to end the War on Coal, bringing coal mining jobs back to the country, including in Pennsylvania (a state abundant in coal resources) it surely mobilized coal mining workers to go to the polls. And in addition, due to Rubio's strong showing among ethnic minorities, including Hispanics and Asian-Americans, he increased his showing in Philadelphia and won Lehigh County (home to Allentown).

Wolf Blitzer : That's how President Rubio won Pennsylvania and won re-election for a second term. We'll go back to the coverage after a commercial.

12:30 am
Wolf Blitzer : And surprisingly, we can project that President Rubio has won the state of Illinois, becoming the first Republican since George H. W. Bush in 1988 to win this big prize state.

Illinois - 100 % reported
Marco Rubio :  50 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 49 %

1:30 am
Wolf Blitzer : At 1 : 30 am, we can report that the state of Washington will go to President Rubio who has made progress in California by doing well in southern California, especially in San Diego, Anaheim and San Bernardino and by winning over one million votes in the Los Angeles County.

Washington - 95 % reported
Marco Rubio :  51 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 48 %

2:30 pm
Wolf Blitzer : And finally in the state of California, we can project that President Rubio narrowly wins the state of California and its 55 electoral votes, which marks the first time since 1988 that a Republican wins this state. This must be due to his strong showings among ethnic minority voters, to the benefits of free trade on the economy, including in California, and to the President's accomplishment to get North Korea to denuclearize.

California - 100 % reported
Marco Rubio : 50 % ✔
Bernie Sanders : 48 %

Wolf Blitzer : So here's the 2020 Electoral College. we can see on the Electoral Map, President Marco Rubio is re-elected with 474 electoral votes, 44 states and 62 % of the vote over Bernie Sanders' 64 electoral votes, 6 states and 37 % of the vote. Thank you ladies and gentlemen for watching the coverage of Election Night 2020. We wish you good night.

Electoral College 2020

Marco Rubio : 474 electoral votes, 62 % of the vote ✔
Bernie Sanders : 64 electoral votes, 37 % of the vote
270 needed to win

I'll do it. Preparing this as well as Bernie Sanders' concession speech and President Rubio's victory speech will take me two days. I have a busy week-end.

Okay, it will be another Democrat than Doug Jones in Alabama. Don’t worry. Anyway, I don’t think Jones would actually have ran in an unwinnable senate election against Jeff Sessions in Alabama. That would be suicidal.

Ya, there is not the slightest chance that Rubio would be winning all of these hyper liberal states. I do think Rubio would actually do almost as well as Bush did in 2004 (losing by low double digits or so), but there’s just no chance he could win California. What’s even more bizarre, however, is having him win Oregon or particularly Washington - these are very pro-Sanders states that lack big Hispanic populations. Sanders would crush Rubio in either of them, as well as in New England (Connecticut, New Jersey, and Delaware would all go to Sanders).

Additionally, the margins are insane in some of these places. Rubio wouldn’t win by 25 nationally lol, come on man. A ten point landslide I could buy, but 25? He’d have to be winning hardcore Democrats to win by 25.

It's your opinion and I respect it. But like I said, the reason why these western states flipped is partly because President Rubio got North Korea to denuclearize and California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii were on the frontline of the North Korean nuclear threat due to their proximity with the Pacific. And another reason of Rubio's success in California is because a very important part of California's economy depend on free trade while Sanders is a harsh opponent of free trade as you know. That's why it would, according to me, give President Rubio an advantage among local voters who selected the economy as the most important issue as they would worry about Sanders' anti-free trade rhetoric. And the reason why Sanders would lose states like New Jersey or others is because he did poorly among ethnic minorities during the Democratic primaries, the moreover that he voted against the Immigration Reform Act of 2007 that would have granted U.S. citizenship for immigrants.

Good timeline. How does Rubio win CA, IL, NJ, CT, WA, OR and DE without a Dem split

He won these states notably because of strong national approval ratings. Sanders voted against the Immigration Reform Act of 2007 that would have granted U.S. citizenship to immigrants and President Rubio managed to reform America's immigration system in 2018 through the adoption of the Opportunity Act, which reinforced his support among ethnic minorities. He also won California, Oregon and Washington because he got North Korea to denuclearize, which strengthened his support in the Western Coast since California, Oregon and Washington were, along with Alaska and Hawaii, on the frontline of the North Korean threat due to their proximity with the Pacific Ocean. When it comes to California, he won this state by highlighting the benefits of free trade while most of California's economy depends on free trade while attacking Sanders' anti-free trade rhetoric.

And thanks again.

This is an excellent timeline.

It's  a shame that Joe Manchin didn't switch parties instead of going to almost certain defeat in the 2018 midterms.  With a relatively moderate president like Rubio I could actually see Manchin switching with Jim Justice although of course he would then have to compete in the WV GOP primary and risk losing there.  What were the reasons for him not switching with Justice in this timeline?

It was very recently that Manchin announced that he might have endorsed the GOP nominee in 2020 and even me I did not imagine that when I made the 2018 midterms until today. But at least, he endorsed President Rubio's 2020 re-election campaign.

Thank you very much.

Wolf Blitzer

And with that we toss it over to our CNN NEW DAY Team who will have some Post Election Analysis.

CNN Post Election Analysis on "CNN NEW DAY"

with Alisyn Camerota, Chris Cuomo, Christine Romans

Chris Cuomo

Good Morning. It's 3am in New York, 8am in London, 11am in Moscow. Where ever you watching from around the world thanks for joining us for "NEW DAY" this morning.

Alisyn Camerota

Republican President Marco Rubio has won a resounding landslide victory yesterday Night defeating his Democratic Opponent, the Senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders by a whopping 474 to 64 Electoral Votes winning traditionally Democratic States like California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, New Jersey, Delaware and Connecticut. This is the biggest Electoral landslide Victory since George Herbert Walker Bush won the Presidency 32 years ago Republicans also kept their Majorities in the House & Senate. Meanwhile Democrats lost 2 Senate Seats and their Minority Leader in the House Tim Ryan.

Christine Romans, CNN Chief Business Correspondent

The Markets around the World trending positivly due to Rubio's re-election victory. It seems his economic message, free and fair trade and free enterprise not only resonating here in the United States but also abroad as well.

Chris Cuomo

Our White House Correspondent Michelle Kosinski is at Rubios Election Night Watch Party at the TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida.
Michelle...

Michelle Kosinski, CNN White House Correspondent

President Rubio wrapped up his Election Night Party here in Jacksonville, Florida a few hours ago. He received a very gracious call from his Democratic opponent, Senator Sanders shortly after 10pm after the Networks called the State of Pennsylvania for him ensuring his re-election. He held off speaking until after 11pm when the states on the West Coast closed. He thanked his supporters for their hard work and thanked the Nation as a whole for giving him & his team the opportunity to serve as President for another four years. Here is what he had to say...

CNN AIRS SOME CLIPS FROM PRESIDENT RUBIO'S ELECTION NIGHT SPEECH

The President, his family as well as the Vice President and her family have now gone for sleep. It's expected that President Rubio will depart Jacksonville enroute to Washington later this morning. Back to you Chris.

Chris Cuomo

And from President Rubio's Election Night Victory Party we go to his Democratic opponent Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Our correspondent Jeff Zeleny who covered the Senator's presidential campaign for he last two years is joining us from Burlington, Vermont. Jeff…

Jeff Zeleny, CNN Correspondent

Good Morning Chris. It’s all quiet here in Burlington, Vermont. Campaign Stuff are just wrapping up the last bits and pieces from Senator Sanders Election Night Watch Party. Senator Sanders conceded the Presidential Election shortly after 10pm ET after the big State of Pennsylvania for the President. Aides described the conversation between the two Candidates as very gracious. Senator Sanders then took the stage here thanking his supporters & campaign staff. Here is what he has had to say....

CNN AIRS CLIPS FROM SENATOR SANDERS' ELECTION NIGHT CONCESSION SPEECH

He also encouraged them to keep fighting for progressive values. He is expected to get back to Washington D. C. on Thursday. He is still a member of the United States Senate after all. Back to you Chris & Alisyn…

Alisyn Camerota

Let’s briefly check in with our Senior White House Correspondent Jim Acosta who is at the White House with some News. Jim…

Jim Acosta, CNN Senior White House Correspondent

Good Morning. The President is expected to be back at the White House early this afternon but Senior Advisors of the President are already planning & plotting strategy for his second term. High on their and the President's agenda is the deficit and depth of the country. They’re planning to introduce a Balanced Budget Amendment in Congress very soon. The President touched briefly on this during his Campaign Rallys and Speeches. We know that Alex Conant, the Communications Director for his Reelection Campaign will be the new White House Press Secretary in the new year. We also know that RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel will fully chair the RNC during the next 4 years. This year that duty was still shared with Reince Pribus. Some potential Cabinet Shakeups could occur so I’ll give you a Short List...

Secretary of State Lindsay Graham (65 when President Rubio starts his 2nd Term)
Treasury Secretary Mitt Romney (73)
Secretary of Defense James Mattis (70)
HUD Secretary Bob Woodson (83)
Energy Secretary Harold Hamm (74)
Homeland Security Secretary Rudy Giuliani (76)
UN Ambassador Dan Coats (77)
National Security Advisor Stanley A. McChrystal (66)

The most likely of those I'm told is HUD Secretary Bob Woodson.

Chris Cuomo
