i would have thought, like with nicotine taxes, this is...eh.....the goal?

Imposing lifestyle choices on people like NAZI's?

Yes, I suppose they are meeting that goal.

*facepalm*

Yeah no. You have zero evidence that not blindly following your religion is unhealthy. And drinking sugary drinks isn't a matter of conscience like religion

I find it funny that the collectivists are accusing the individualists of being triggered when it is the former group that is offended by the very idea that people should be allowed to make their own bad decisions.

Which side of the debate compared the other sides position to eugenics and nazism?

Are you claiming that sugary drinks aren't unhealthy? Because you don't have much of a point otherwise.

The states and regions that flipped to trump weren't the ones with this kind of "nanny statism". There weren't a significant number of defections to trump over this. And of course, since when is a Piguvian tax smug condescension? Its not that a "poor mass of people that can't think for themselves" needs to be directed away from soda, its that making soda more expensive leads to people being more healthy. Since being healthy is a good thing, it would make sense to use a tax to make soda more expensive(not even banning it, just taxing).

[insert obligatory spiel about how the notion of morality is absurd]
i've said it before and say it yet again. it is not the job of government to decide how persons ought to live their lives (so long as they aren't hurting others) or compel them to act in a certain way by means of taxation. such is tantamount to imposing religious beliefs upon us. and maintaining secularism is important. this is why i'm against "sin" taxes. #pro-choice

Do you have a socialist avatar because it looks cool or because you think it makes you cool. Because that doesn't sound like a socialist.

I had no idea sugar taxes were an essential part of socialism.

They are, but the point was more his libertarian rant about government. The average socialist tends to not be against government intervention on principle.
