Having worked in West Africa, I personally noticed two things.

1. The majority of help comes from a few institutions of merit in helping your common African villager: The US Peace Corps and private banks (Bank from Luxembourg for example) working there.

2. You cannot end extreme poverty in these poor countries. They will find a way to corrupt your money to keep the dirt poor......dirt poor.

You cannot give these poorest countries money to build a road network or sewerage system in a city when the country has no graduating engineers, skilled labour or equipment to do so.

You have to import everyone and the money to do it. So engineering projects are expensive because you have very little basic infrastructure.

The US volunteers for the Peace Corps exposed themselves to extremely high levels of personal risk (raped, beaten, arrested) to live within the communities they assisted.

If you have any female friends thinking about going to Africa with the US Peace Corps, I would suggest you heavily discourage them from doing so.

The argument about ending extreme poverty because of 100 billionaires wealth has a flawed premise. The cultural change necessary will take decades.
