I think if Joe Biden went with his gut and ran for president in 2016 after his son's death, he could have beaten Trump and could have bowed out in 2020 if he had a good term.

Which other Obama veep finalist could have won in 2016 in his or her own right?

Evan Bayh? Tim Kaine? Kathleen Sebelius?

I think Kaine could've been okay...maybe Sebelius too.

The rest are too wooden from what I can tell or would alienate the base.

You think Sebelius could have been the first female president or go through with Hillary?

Not sure anyone of these. Biden could definitely have won in 2016.

I'm going to take a different position from the posters above.  I don't think Biden was uniquely suited to win in 2016.  I wasn't as invested in politics at the time, but in 2012 or so Biden was a nobody and I think it was only the trend of memes where he was made out to be Obama's friend that catapulted him to the top.  Who knows what relationship Obama would have had with any of these other three people.  If Obama has a successful term in this world, couldn't he make Evan Bayh (or someone else) his successor like Biden was in our world?

NOTA, and the full list (beyond just the shortlist) is bleak.
