The first nominating convention in 2000 had a tie for second place, with Jello Biafra and Stephen Gaskin both receiving ten delegate votes. The first round of the 2004 nomination had Peter Camejo (the running mate of Ralph Nader, who was running as an independent seeking the Green nomination) in second, just ahead of Ralph Nader himself in third. Both were eliminated for the second ballot, with Nader supporters instead voting for "No Nominee."
