He has been saying that if he is reelected, Republicans will be swarming to him to work with him.  That is the most naive thing I have ever heard in my years of following politics.

Obama could get all 538 electoral votes and 70% of the popular vote and Republicans still would not support any of his proposals.  You want to know why?  Because they have no incentive to.  They are safely ensconed in their gerrymandered House majority and that is all that they care about.

Republicans paid no price for trying to impeach Clinton with even less favorable House maps and paid almost no price for that(they lost five lousy House seats in 1998, big freakin' whoop).

What Obama should be doing is trying to defeat as many House Republicans as possible and somehow get Democrats close to a House majority.

Obama needs to be more like George W. Bush when it comes to politics.  You dont try and be friends with the other party.  They are the enemy and you try to defeat them.

2013/2014 is going to be hilariously bad if Republicans win Congress this year. Weakening or killing the filibuster in 2009 should have been the first step if Democrats were thinking long-term. I doubt they'd do it in 2013 now even if they held the Senate this year considering there's a big chance they could lose it in 2014.

Say what you want about Republicans, but at least they play to win. There's something really dissatisfying about elections between weak, spineless Democrats and batsh*t crazy Republicans.

I remember after the 2010 elections, when the Republicans botched the swearing in process and misread the Constitution, Meeker said "This is going to be a fun two years." In a way, it has been a kind of sad and hilarious couple of years, but two more years of Republican control of Congress isn't going to be much of a joke, I fear.

I agree it's not actually a joke.

That's always been my frustration, that we have the potential to do so much more and yet we under-reach and applaud mediocre results.

It is very peculiar to see a lot of liberals fret about the last 2 years when House Republicans have given them so much in the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 and the Budget Control Act of 2011.
