Tom Coburn, one of the few Republicans I'll miss.

I never would have even guessed that the NFL is tax exempt.

A sensible thing to do, which means it will never happen.

I never would have even guessed that the NFL is tax exempt.

They have no shareholders to distribute their profits to. Like any other not-for-profit (including hospitals and universities), all their earnings have to be kept within the organization itself. In theory, this is supposed to imply that they're keeping their prices low in the interest of the consumer and earning near-zero profits. In practice, it implies that they often have profit margins comparable or in excess of what a for-profit counterpart would have and use the money to invest heavily in capital assets, some of which aren't necessarily economically logical (when I visited my aunt in the not-for-profit hospital she was treated for cancer in last year, the waiting area in her wing included wood-paneled walls and a grand piano), or in lavish wages and benefits for employees, particularly those in upper management (look up the salaries of hospital CEOs and medical directors for an example).

Good, this is what should've been done in the first place.

Good. Can they take the gaming rights away from EA and give it back to 2k as well?

This.  I also wonder what other random stuff has tax-exempt status for no good reason.  There have to be a lot of things that most people don't know about and I'm now kind of curious.  Crossroads GPS (and probably certain similar groups on both sides) would be an obvious example, but what are some of the more surprising ones?

I believe only MLB has that and not the other sports leagues.

I thought they had it too but it appears there has been legal wranglings out it and they really don't.

Are there 60 senators from states without pro football, like Maine and Oklahoma?

Count up the red states, b33.  I count 28 states without a NFL team.

NFL owners have deep enough pockets to make sure every state votes like they have their own team.

The redskins stadium is in MD though. Not sure if there are any other examples like that.

No question about that.

Technically, the New England Patriots are supposed to be the football team for all of New England, and the Carolina Panthers are supposed to represent South Carolina too.

Yeah, I shouldn't have put DC in there and gave MD two.  Ugh. Well bottom line is nothing is going to happen to the NFL's not for profit tax emptions.
