Looking at Edwin Poots: I can see the most obvious feature of him that will caricatured... and I'm reminded, not in a good way, of the late Dr Paisley.

Wait are you saying I could text Boris Johnson personally after getting his number from a Google search?

...I’ll be right back.

EDIT: Damn, apparently they disconnected it after all this, but it was openly available for anyone for 15 years!

The best part is that this reveal came from Popbitch- which is a rather legendary gossip newsletter that has been running for about 20 years.

Didn't the Dutch PM used to make their number available?

I did postal votes this year because of Covid-19; I've set my preference to expire at the end of the year though as my polling station is less than 5 minutes' walk away.

Poots makes Paisley look pleasant and that's saying something.

If labour loses 2024 is sir Keir in trouble?

He's likely no longer leader if that happens.

The "classic" was the British Rail pork pie.

Prue Leith was actually on the BR board and got rid of those classics.

Perhaps if he’d done more research when writing the Churchill Factor he’d know that his waifu didn’t write any books whilst in office (although I suppose Disraeli did write Endymion whilst he was still PM).

What about the final volume of The Second World War?

Is he Catholic? I heard on the radio that he was married at Westminster Cathedral.

For the non-Brits reading this, that's an 11-minute walk from the Abbey and next to Victoria Station.

I would be OK with a delay in full re-opening if the scientists feel that is best. I've had both my jabs anyway.

Just want to get rid of the masks...

It's the Department of Health rather than the Health Ministry, but your point might be valid. Ironically, I once temped for that organisation...

Can we expect a England beats Germany boost for Boris?

Well it take attention away from the Hancock affair that was threatening to become the latest national obsession.

You could it say it was Hancock's half hour.

The ban was because of Liverpool fans breaking into the Juventus stands with the result that a crush of fleeing fans resulted in 39 deaths. Things had gotten a lot better over the decades since then with concerted police action; most domestic games pass off without any major incident.

****

England did win the World Cup in 1966, which we also constantly remind people of. The song "It's Coming Home" was written for Euro '96, the 30th anniversary of that win and where the current manager famously missed a penalty in the semi-final against Germany. The song is a lot less triumphalist than you might think and was a sad, but hopeful reflection on our performance since then.

Last night was only our second ever major tournament final for the men's team (the women got to the European Championship final twice).

****
Anyway, I hope that those so called fans get hit with some major banning orders.

Politics was in sports long before Kaepernick. Going back to the days of Roman games if not further.

Indeed, Labour only had two non-white Cabinet members in the entire 1997-2010 government - Paul Boateng and Sadiq Khan, neither of whom were actually department heads.

How does it feel to be an untitled commoner like Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall? Would anyone here want to be a member of British nobility/royalty/House of Lords?

I wouldn't personally mind a knighthood one day...
