To his credit, Obama put actual Republicans on his cabinet. The democrat I could even conceive of as one that would still register as Democrat today is probably Gabbard, and even then it's Gabbard.

I'd be interested to see how Trump could possibly present Carson as qualified for HUD. I could see HHS because he's a surgeon or even Education because he was technically a university administrator, but not this.

wth.....why would haley agree to that? (and i think that takes her out from presidential runs for 1 or 2 cycles) she is easily the biggest patriot in that administration.

Kinda stunned by the Haley pick. Not sure why she'd accept. Maybe bolster foreign policy credentials for a future POTUS run? Only thing I can think of

She was already out for 2020, since she isn't going to primary Trump, but I don't see how this impacts her chances of running in 2024 one way or ther other.

i absolutely could be wrong on that, since my knowledge about the US is still limited, but is there some kind of precedent for someone getting appointed to a - kind of -  international non-partisan top job and them comes back to run for higher office?

maybe i misjudge the "ambassador" role here if someone like bolton was appointed to do that job before.

thanks, morden, i should have more specifically asked for a successful bid of such a candidate (i guess accepting the ambassadorship from obama even harmed his candidacy) but i agree now that it would be possible.

btw......next romney bash from an early trump backer:

It may have, but Obama was of course of the opposite party, while Trump is the same party as Haley.
