I'd presume it's because a lot of people preferred to see Harry get together with Hermione...also the concept of Horcuxes, when you dig really deep just seems foolish.

That said Deathly Hallows is far better than Half-Blood Prince.

(Unpopular opinion here) HBP is actually my favorite book (not movie though.)
