Of course. He knows no loyalty other than to himself. And if he loses, he will need scapegoats for his loss rather than acknowledging the defeat his a result of his own failure and that the fish stinks from the head. One of his scapegoats will be the GOP, sure.

No, because he (or his kids) will still want to run in 2024.

He can still trash their elected officials and party leadership / operatives. That would play well with the base. They're loyal to him and not to McTurtle, McCarthy or Cheney.

He'll blame everyone from the GOP to electoral fraud. The GOP is his, though. The politicians may not legitimately like him, but Republicans f***ng love him and will continue to love him after he leaves office.

This, precisely.

Eventually the right-wing media will give up on defending Trump, just as they gave up on defending GWB. But Trump will most likely be dead by then.

I expect him to refuse to concede defeat.  Try every angle in the book to remain in power.  And ultimately if it all fails my bet is he relocates to Russia or Eastern Europe making the argument that "America under Biden is going to come apart".

I think so because I can easily picture him accusing the GOP of not having been sufficiently loyal to him or whatever.

He was talking about looking at firing Barr the other day because even he is not sufficiently "loyal" to Trump.

Imagine him changing registration again. But he's not welcome in the Democratic Party, obviously.

He's definitely going to trash Republicans if he loses. This guy never takes responsibility for anything. It's just not his thing. He will claim congressional Republicans were disloyal losers who lost him the House and even failed to repeal Obamacare (wait for Tweets like "Republican senators, who are McCain lovers (a loser btw), failed to repeal Ocare what made people mad!"). He could also go after Republican governors and state legislatures for allowing "massive vote fraud" to happen. And last but not least, he'll trash the RNC as a bunch of "losers" who were incapable of running a campaign and failed to raise enough money.

Congressional Republicans for their part will move on, pretend it all never happened and that they were always Never Trumpers who prevented the worst from his administration. At the same time, they will continue to obstruct the Biden Administration and embrace the hard-right or those people Hillary rightfully called Deplorables.

If anything, the opposite is more likely to happen. Republican voters don't like losers!

Why would he dump a party he has full control of?

He'll trash certain individuals definitely, but he will still want some presence in the party's future and they know that too which is why the GOP having some sort of epiphany of sanity should he lose is so unlikely.

Sanity was never going to happen no matter what. It didn't happen in 1992 or 1996, it didn't happen in 2006 or 2008...so why now?

Some people probably are still foolishly clinging to this notion. It's why seeing anti-Trump Republicans who may cling to the "supporting a Democrat for President but with a Republican Senate to check them" mentality are so frustrating.

This is a realignment. Those anti-Trump Republicans will become Democrats. They may dead-cat-bounce back to the Republicans in 2022 or 2024, but they will mostly be Democrats until the next realignment.

There will be large, fundamental changes in both parties.

Let's hope the changes are away from radicalism and toward pragmatism.

Barr is only a Falangist, which is too moderate for Trump.

I wonder if he'll end up with the semi-accurate take that Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan tricked him into supporting their agenda and moving away from what he promised, that he lost because in a way he didn't give people enough Trump.

Yes, and if he's re-elected he'll do it in 2025 instead.

Trump still has to govern for the next 2 months and hold the cards in a stimulus deal for a CR on 12/1, the stimulus will pass and it will be made retroactive, but it shouldn't have taken this long
