After watching how quickly Turkey (and Russia) and the Taliban filled in after a tiny amount of US forces left much of northeast Syria and Afghanistan respectively, I've come to the conclusion that US (and other NATO) troops simply being somewhere are almost as good of an invasion deterrent as nukes. So, yes, I think it'd be reasonable for both the US and its allies to send a small contingent of forces in a non-combat role to Kiev and maybe some other places to deter both Russian seizure of territory and things like indiscriminate shelling and air strikes. Furthermore, if I were Biden, I'd personally travel to eastern Ukraine and tour the frontlines with Zelensky. If nothing else, it'd sure put a stop to the shelling for at least a day.
