The Word of God came to Moses,
and Moses went to Pharaoh, and said: "Let my people go, so that they may
sacrifice to Yahweh in the desert."
9. And Moses took his journey with the children of Israel from the
plains of Moab unto the Red Sea.
10. And the LORD said unto Moses, "I will rain bread from heaven for
you: and the people shall go out, and gather a certain rate every day,
that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no."
11. And it came to pass, that on the morrow, when the dew fell, and
one was on the face of the wilderness, the children of Israel gathered
manna, and they stooped to eat.
12. And the manna was like coriander seed, and the appearance of it
was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafer
bread, but when the children of Israel had eaten of it, then their
faces changed, and they were ill.
13. And Moses said unto Aaron, "Take a pot, and put an omer full of
manna therein, and lay it up before the Lord, to be kept for your
father, Aaron, and your children, when I come to him in the next
world."
14. And Moses showed unto Aaron all the land of Canaan, with the
goats, and said: "Take the kids of the goats, and present them before
the Lord, that he will consider your souls."
15. And Aaron said unto Moses: "May the Lord bless you,
Moses!-speak, I pray thee, to the children of Israel, saying: 'Take ye
no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall be thought for you of
the Lord: the Lord will fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.'"
16. And Moses said unto the children of Israel: "Today ye are
passing over the Jordan into the land which the Lord thy God giveth you:
ye have therefore a passover to eat, even this night.
17. And when ye have eaten the passover, then let every one of you
unite himself with the priest that maketh the passover, and shall
eat it with the lamb, for a sweet savour; as the Lord hath commanded.
18. And it came to pass, when Moses had brought their children
unto the place, that the child whose hair was shorn for the passover,
sought to go to his father.
19. And Moses said unto his father: "Because it is the commandment
of the Lord that he shall die, therefore let this children not be
brought to put him to death; for the thing is abhorred by the
children of Israel."
20. And his father said to him: "What doth the Lord thy God require
of thee?"
21. And he said unto his father: "To observe to do according to the
word of the Lord by day, and according to the commandment of the Lord
by night."
22. And the father saw that the way of the Lord was good in the eyes
of his son.
23. And Moses ate the passover, and with the multitude that was
eating the passover with him he ate it: to prevent their eating the
fat, till it were gone down.
24. And Moses said: "This is the thing which the Lord commanded,
saying, Let the children of Israel eat it: but let them not eat the
fat.
25. For whosoever eateth the fat of the passover, that same shall be
cut off from among his people.
