Basically just comparing patterns (if interesting) and seeing what can be seen there. Comments welcome; I'll make my own later.

Thanks for posting this Al. Much appreciated Smiley

Its no surprise that Obama underperformed in West Virginia, compared to Senator Rockefeller and Governor Manchin, likewise with Obama's performance in Kentucky. Should be interesting to see how Obama "stacks" up with the likes of Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire and Tom Allen in Maine.

Ah, so the whites in East Texas hate a hispanic a little less than they hate a black.

Interesting visuals... The Merkely map is actually a fairly good demonstration of traditional Oregon voting patterns with Metro Portland+ Benton/Lane essentially opposed to most of the rest of the state. It is this pattern which has kept the state competitive for Republicans over the past few decades.

Part of the reason Democrats selected Merkely for their Senate candidate, was because he was seen as able to compete "downstate" by virtue of his Southern Oregon and timber industry background. In that regard, he was a failure.

What is truly interesting is that Obama was able to compete so well in medium-sized counties such as Marion (Salem), Jackson (Medford), and Deschuttes (Bend), as well as totally dominating in the normally 50-50 Portland suburbs. These are normally the areas, which combined with the Pdx suburbs can make the state competitive for Republicans in the first place.

Note that there was also an Independent candidate in the Senate race; not sure who he took votes from.

Wallace is a conspiracy theorist who believes a corrupt judicial branch is ruling America from behind the scenes.

Wallace's support seems pretty uniform, but naturally he ran better in the Southeast and the Far West of the state, percentage-wise, at least.
