Forrester chopping away at Corzine's lead in Hudson.

While Hudson County remains heavily in Sen. Jon Corzine’s corner, Doug Forrester, his Republican opponent in next week’s gubernatorial election, is gaining ground, according to the latest Jersey Journal/New Jersey City University poll.

The poll, conducted Oct. 26, found that 45.5 percent of Hudson County residents would vote for Corzine, the Democratic nominee. While it’s a slightly lower number than in the previous poll conducted two weeks ago, it’s well within the margin of error.

Meanwhile, 21.8 percent of Hudson County residents said they support Forrester, up from just 14 percent in the previous poll.

Is Hudson a pivotal county for Democrats? The sort of place they must win big to offset any GOP strength elsewhere in the state

I guess it must be since Kerry carried it by 67% to 32% in 2004, which means it could be a close run gubnatorial race

Not necessarily, you can expect pretty large MOVs for the Democrats out of Mercer, Essex, and Camden counties.  And Corzine is still leading by 22 pts according to that poll.

"I'm not corrupt. The idea that it's bribery when I have every goddamn union endorsement in the state.  It's not like any of these people think I'm a schmuck."  -- Jon Corzine (Star-Ledger, 10/30/05)

Are you sure about that, Jon?

Pretty much all the polls are saying the same thing.  It looks like Corzine will win by about 10 points.

I wish Mason Dixon or other top tier polling firm would jump in here.  These polls have been all over the place.  Marist had Forrester down by 1%.  Today we have two polls that show Corzine locked up and ready for an announcement speech.  Now, we have this Marist poll that puts the race in a dead heat.

This race is giving me a headache. I also give a lot of credibility to Quinnipiac and in this case, it's bad news. However, with polls still suggesting that the margin is in the single digits, I don't know what to think. This last week should be crazy.

Strategic Vision has done some very good stuff on the Gubernatoral level.  They're a GOP firm but they're probably second-best to Mason-Dixon.

As far as I'm concerned, if Strategic Vision says Corzine by 6%, chances are Forrester is dead in the water.

Fairleigh Dickinson University, I believe, was the polling firm that showed Bush and Kerry tied twice.  It's rare to see a GOP-leaning university, but if that was them (and I am decently sure it was), they should not be trusted whatsoever.

From all the news I have seen, Forrester seems to be getting rather panicked (such as hiring people in Newark).  I'm a polling guy, not a "feel of the race" guy, but all indications I've seen is that Forrester may have to save a tree full of kittens to pull this off.
