The Braves and Mets are apparently playing football this series, as the Braves won 7-0 last night and 21-3 today.

I think I might win the Fantasy League this year. Just a day away from going to 12-6.

If the regular season ended after Sunday, I'd be facing Illiniwek in the first round (and indeed, barring either me catching JGibson for the #1 overall seed, or Illiniwek falling apart in the final weeks of the regular season, that will be the matchup).

An explosive scandal is brewing in Tampa, as star shortstop Wander Franco is under investigation in the Dominican Republic for an indecent relationship with a minor.

Quote
Rays star shortstop Wander Franco is under investigation in the Dominican Republic for an alleged relationship with a minor.

The investigation began earlier this week following social media rumors surrounding the shortstop that alleged that Franco was engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a minor. MLB subsequently opened its own investigation into the allegations on Sunday.

Angelos is such a phucking cheap mamook. The Os are just as large of a market as the Padres and Cardinals yet you don’t see them crying poor. Way to be a total buzzkill on your fanbase who’s enjoying their best season in a decade. I get Crush Davis’s contract became an albatross like few others but this is for your young core, not an aging slugger. Not to mention bro’s threatening to move if Maryland doesn’t fork over half a bil for Camden Yards renovations. It’s already a top-10 ballpark, the phuck is he crying about? Guy needs to get a grip and stop penny-pinching.

This could very well be the end of 2-way Shohei Ohtani, and may be just a hitter only from here on out.

Nationals RHP Stephen Strasburg announces that he'll retire from MLB. Strasburg helped get the Nationals a World Series title in 2019.

MLB.com:

2019 World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg is planning to retire from baseball, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Thursday. The news was first reported by The Washington Post. The Nationals have a press conference tentatively scheduled for Sept. 9, according to The Post. The Nationals have not confirmed the report.

Strasburg has not pitched since June 9, 2022, when he made his only appearance of the season for Washington. He underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome in 2021 and has not been able to make a full return from that procedure.

If Strasburg hadn't gotten injured two years ago, we could have been talking about him as a possible hall of famer.

As it is, he's just on the edge of borderline.

If I were the Angels, I wouldn't let him hit either. You're not going to make the playoffs and he isn't going to resign with you anyways. What's the point of playing him at all? Just put him on the IL and move on.

Waino has 199 career wins. Hoping he gets 200.

This came in a 5-2 win over the O's last night for the Cardinals.

The Braves beat the Phillies 4-1 tonight, giving them a 17-game lead with 16 to play, thereby clinching their sixth consecutive NL East division title.

I cannot believe the Cubs lost their game tonight, and how they lost it. Absolute heartbreak. Reminds me of what it felt like to be a fan back in the 90s and 00s.

Waino went out with a bang, as the start over the Brewers in which he got his 200th win in will be his last start. Adam Wainwright could get one final at-bat sometime to close the season out.

John Denton at MLB.com:
Quote
MILWAUKEE -- On what would ultimately be the final pitch of his storied 18-year career as a pitcher for the Cardinals, Adam Wainwright knew that he would need to come from high over the top with his ailing right arm to get the tumbling action on a curveball that might preserve a 1-0 lead that eventually became his 200th victory on Sept. 18.

The only problem was that Wainwright had been unable to get his arm in that position for weeks because of the soreness in his right shoulder, and the multiple herniated discs in his back. To get there, Wainwright thought to himself as he stepped off the rubber, while 33,176 fans at Busch Stadium chanted his name, he’d need a pep talk.

[...]

Wainwright, one of 31 players in AL/NL history to homer on his first MLB pitch, is holding out hope for one at bat when the Cardinals host the Reds over the weekend.

Marmol, who added that Wainwright will remain on the active roster, said an at-bat is “a possibility,” but pitching again is not.

Another heartbreaking loss in the final week. Bears are 0-3. It’s fine. I’m fine.

It was the 3rd time this year the Braves swept a series after trailing in every game.

The regular season is over, and the first round of the playoffs will soon being.

There are too many teams (although it could be worse) and every series needs a corporate sponsor. Bleh.

My pessimistic predictions:

Toronto will sweep Minnesota, and lose to Houston.

Baltimore will lose to the winner of the WC round despite being the number one seed. Ownership will trade off key pieces to New York or Boston for money.

NLCS is Atlanta vs. LA Dodgers. Houston will win the ALCS.

I'd like to see Milwaukee in the WS.
