President Truman's administration was so burdened by the loss of China to the Communists, a less than fruitful "police action" in Korea, and rumors of corruption and Communist infiltration in the high echelons of government that the incumbent proved too toxic to seek reelection in his own right. The Democrats desperately turned to a perceived egghead to boost their electoral fortunes. On the Republican side, former Vice-President John Bricker was the frontrunner going into the nomination, a prospect that scared many Northeastern Republicans due to his conservative and isolationist views. General Eisenhower accepted a draft to thwart Bricker's nomination and narrowly prevailed.

Eisenhower, because the Tennessee Maverick isn't the Democratic nominee or Veep, and because a segregationist would be worse than Nixon as President should either [Stevenson or Eisenhower] die.

Stevenson, but Eisenhower should run away with this.

Stevenson, although I wouldn't mind an Eisenhower win.

What's the betting that Eisenhower wins all 48 states?

SPC, can some other Democrat get nominated in 1956 so we don't have the same matchup?
