I thought he died in the 90s, but maybe I'm confusing him with the fat guy in the Greatful Dead.

They played these constantly on 102.9 WKIX back in the early 2010s. Used to spend hours listening to them and similar songs from that period while doing work for my college classes, playing PS2 and let's be honest blowing innumerable hours on Atlasia in the RPP era.
